Have to say that the HP Mini note is pretty much the best in terms of build quality and finish...it's also one of the most expensive. The Windows XP version with 2GB of RAM is 29990. At that price, I can already get a faster 14" laptop.

Sa presyong ginawa ng Acer sa Acer Aspire One (P18,800), I think Acer will dominate the UMPC market (at least for the Filipinos).
So far, yun kasi ang may pinaka-affortable na UMPC na may Intel Atom processor. Bang for the buck, 'ika nga!
Sana may magbenta na ng Acer Aspire na pwede 0% interest for 12 months via Credit Card!!!

Acer wants us to buy 12units of other models for every 10units of the Aspire One... not very fair. Maybe we will wait for the next batch when the the terms of purchase become more realistic...

acer aspire one looks good. but i don't like that gap
<click here for link>between the screen and keyboard. a pen or same thing could get trapped in there and get jammed.

- Laptops or even netbooks have something that is not vital in cellphones ->
Software.
- The success of netbooks/UMPCs will be greatly dependent on the software. All existing UMPCs run best on XP, which microsoft has discontinued.
- We have not encountered a UMPC that runs Vista efficiently.
- UMPCs will be here for the long term if either Linux makes a Giant Leap or Microsoft decides to support UMPC platforms, like maybe Vista Lite.

@robcoun, Acer will sell you 10 Pieces of Aspire One bundled with:
12pieces Aspire 4920 + 1piece Aspire 6920
Bundled to sell as One(1) package in order to move items which did not click in the market.
Last week they needed the resellers and offered a price drop. Now they have a unique product and demand this deal from resellers. Thats life in this industry... if the Aspire One was only cheaper in other countries we would have imported directly... Supply should ease end of the month when fresh stocks arrive.
The product launch was rushed. Someone in Acer Philippines believes in numerology and wanted to launch the product on 7/8/08 at 8:00PM... get it? 888. It is an auspicious day for those who believe.

naku ang mamahal pa naman nung model na yon Sir?hehehe...masyado naman silang opportunista pero at the end of the day kailangan pa rin nila ibenta yang mga Acer One na yan lalo na pag marami ng supply and eventually they will have to relent.

@ COOLTOYZ
I agree with you about that. With great hardware specs it will still depends on the Operating Systems that you will use.
Windows XP maybe discontinued but its still supported by Microsoft...
But there are still alternative like Linux there are some great distro to choose from like UBUNTU and tohers alike and the best part is its FREE...

Well, the Olympics begin on 08 August 2008 08/08/08 and the Boeing 787 was launched July 08, 2007 07/08/07.
I would prefer an older Thinkpad subnotebook (X-series) because they're around the same price, and in many cases processors that are equal to or faster than trhese new subnotebooks. Just make sure you get one with an XP or 200 COA and you have the original install (or at least know someone who can restore the factory pre-load)

softwares may be more vital to pc's than cellphones but still softwares make the cellphones function. say for nokia, the os they are using is symbian..
vista has no necessary capability that the xp doesn't have. ergo, it just means to say that umpc's hardware are enough to run the necessary softwares at this point in time and the next if ever softwares will be upgraded.
you see, netbooks came out at this point in time because it bridged the gap of sufficient hardware (atom, 965 chipsets, wifi etc) and efficient software (xp and linux).. it will continue to be that way because both hardware and software will upgrade at the same time thereafter..
at least that's just my opinion..
note: gaming at this point in time is unbridged, at least for umpcs

meron na dell dito, i remember reading it sa news that they're now targeting RP market. But i dont know if distro or direct sila. If you visit Abenson/ Eletroworld they carry it na. Pwede pa nga credit card 0 interest. Pero right now i think best bang for the peso na 'tong Aspire One, considering Dell's usual high price.
