Ok thanks again swat.
Moving to another query:
Has anyone experienced their k40iN system freeze just a few minutes after it boots up?
Is there such known issue for Win7 Ultimate users?
Mine did it about 4 times. I thought it was just the touch pad not responding, unfortunately using a mouse is not of any help. So I have to manually turnoff the unit using the power button.
Also, would there be a problem if I am using 2 different brands of RAM? They are of the same frequency though.
Thanks to those who care to share their experiences, these are very helpful and truly appreciated by new users like me. Kudos to you!

@thepalindrome
i've encountered two identical problem with the laptop. although yung two instances na yun eh, rare mangyari. when i opened the lid of the laptop, the cursor is won't respond if you use the touchpad but moves if you use a USB mouse. i had to turn off the laptop for a couple of seconds for it to respond. minsan kasi if you restart, it'll still be the same problem.
@alanis
no problem

Thanks swat. I guess I'll just go back to the store to have it checked since I really am not able to isolate the issue as to when it happens. I am trying to mimic scenarios to trigger the error but I am unsuccessful. It just randomly freezes.
Would the additional RAM installed by the store tech be a suspect? One more concern though is that my unit does not seem to have a warrantee sticker. Well the people in accent micro seemed nice during the purchase, I just hope they still have the same enthusiasm when I go back for the repair/replacement.Ü

alanis_junkie43 how did you activate the SRS function?
Also, not all of the hotkeys seem to work. Or maybe they do, I'm just not seeing any changes. Changes are only evident for the volume and brightness.

@thepalindrome, alanis
backread lang po kayo .. i've posted the software that you'll be needing para mapagana yung Fn features.
try to run memtest para ma-check na nde defective yung memory na nilagay nila. para kasing mas ok kung same memory module ang ikakabit sa laptop. i might add another ram next year pero probably the same brand (Kingston kasi nakakabit ngayon)
as for the warranty sticker, same here. there's no warranty sticker at the back of hte unit but i guess as long as you have the receipt, it should be ok.

my k40in is now officially working perfectly (after 1wk of stress-testing). i'm using Windows 7 x64 with 4gb ram and everything is smooth. despite the multiple initial problems i encountered, i have no regrets choosing the k40in.
@Palindrome: if you backread this thread a couple of pages, you'll note that i encountered the same freezing/hanging problems as you did. i have isolated the problem to defective RAM module that also probably resulted to botched installation of Nvidia chipset & video drivers. i had a defective dealer-installed Kingston RAM (Twice!), everything's ok after it was replaced by an Apacer RAM (same brand as my RAM upgrade) and i did a clean install of OS and used updated drivers.
just to enhance Swat's earlier post on which drivers to install, i'd like to share the recommended order for installation of primary drivers:
1) Chipset driver (fr Nvidia site) : resolves "co-processor" error in device manager
2) ATKACPI driver (fr Asus site) : resolves "unknown device" error in device manager
3) Video driver (fr Nvidia site)
4) Audio driver (fr Realtek site)
5) Camera driver (fr Asus site)
6) other utility drivers such as Hotkeys etc.
Note: install the anti-virus Last!
like most people would suggest, leave the BIOS alone! though i have to admit i was severely tempted to update to BIOS 219 for awhile (my unit has BIOS 213).

Nice to know ^_^

Summary below, while the full report can be found at: [SquareTrade]
•Over 31 percent of laptops will fail in the first three years of ownership.
•Of these failures, two-thirds came from hardware malfunctions (20.4 percent) and one-third (10.6 percent) was reported as accidental damage.
•Asus and Toshiba were the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16 percent having a hardware malfunction over three years.
•Netbooks are projected to have a 20 percent higher failure rate from hardware malfunctions than more expensive laptop computers.
• Manufacturers proved to be a more reliable determinant of reliability than the type of laptop and should be a greater factor in making a purchase decision.

@Gogeta: i guess Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) should be ok for a unit with 2gb ram, though if you have access to both x86 & x64, i suggest go 64-bit na (if you don't foresee any potential compatibility problems with some of your 32-bit software, that is). personally i haven't encountered any compatibility issues after my latest clean install of the x64 version in my k40in.
@spartworks: which version of Windows 7 are you using? just to be sure, check whether the Nvidia driver you installed is the proper one -- i.e. 32-bit driver for x86 and 64-bit driver for x64. also, better use the Windows 7 (not Vista) driver from the Nvidia site. lastly, i find it a good practice to uninstall both your video driver and anti-virus before reinstalling the updated video driver. my personal experience was that a bad ram module corrupted my video driver installation, the nvidia control panel kept on disappearing after every reboot and that mislead me to thinking it was a software issue until i ran a memtest. hope this helps.
@Chivalry
bro na try mo ng mag lagay ng xp mode?
@JunAna: Nope di na ako nag-try nyan, i just run old programs using
right-click-compatibility-tab-xp sp2, so far no problems encountered.
@alanis: great to know! when it comes to electronics, i still remember something a technician friend told me -> if you don't encounter problems with your brand new unit in the first 2 weeks of purchase, there's a 99% chance its gonna be good. i guess this applies to laptops too.
@keirisxyz: i experienced reboot problems (hanging in "welcome" screen / black screen after the windows logo) in my k40in. turns out to be defective RAM.
