Good evening mga TPC Canada Chapter, in the next month mag mimigrate na ako sa Canada (Vancouver to be exact). Thanks...

@xserver
900 DVDs are a bit excessive... hindi naman sila mahigpit pero you can never tell if they decide to crack down on piracy one day... and also you can't declare "Pirated movies" sa customs declaration mo, specially 900 pcs worth... The most you should probably bring is 2 or 3 spindles of 100 CDs each... put the rest sa HDD or just bring them in later (when you go back home for vacation)...
The US does check for pirated DVDs/CDs, and Canada is probably going to that some day, and I wouldn't want to be deported on my first day of being an immigrant kung natsambahan ka...

@ moonflower
Yup, they will open your luggage/boxes and the items in the box must correspond to the items listed on the declaration form. The reason why immigrants must declare personal items so that we won't be taxed. Personal items are tax free as long as we declare them. Kc if we don't, customs might think that we might sell them. Kaya advise ng embassy remove price tags on shirts and other items para ndi mukhang bago, iisipn kc ng customs baka ibenta natin.
@ rolandg
Cyempre I won't declare the disk as "pirated movie" on the declaration form, declare ko sila as "backup disks", masyado kc obvious if I label it as "pirated". Sa 900 disks na yon may mga kasama din originals and the rest recordable dvd-r's naman.

Either way, pagdating doon titignan talaga gamit natin kung may dala tayong prohibited items such as firearms, illegal drugs, meat and etc. And everything must be declared para walang tax. Kc if it isn't declared, they might confiscate it.

@hack
I only showed my proof of income, 2005 Tax forms ko + 2006 pay slips (dahil my previous year's income was not enough since it was only for 3 months of 2005 and hindi pa naibibigay ang income tax assessments for 2006 - I submitted in Feb 2007) confirming the minimum income requirement to be able to support my family (which was spouse + 2 kids nung time na yun) + the sponsored person (total of 4 dependents). Actually ang nag-sponsor is my wife (because it is her mother), co-signor ako dahil husband naman ako. When we had our third baby, tumaas dapat yung minimum income requirement (dahil 5 dependents na), pero pasok pa rin naman ang income namin since my wife works na rin, so approved kami...
@moonflower
suggestion lang, kung first time mo pumasok, mas safe siguro if you don't bring those 900 CDs (unless they're origs) and other questionable items. Hindi mo masabi at baka tsambahan ka na mag-crackdown ang Canada sa piracy the day na pumasok ka. You don't want to risk not getting your PR. Siguro once you get your PR card or better yet when you become CAD citizen, saka mo na kunin yung mga CDs mo when you come back to pinas for a visit. Ang pagka-alam ko, the guy who got deported from the US who brought in DVDs from Quiapo was an immigrant and lost his green card qualifications because of this. Although maluwag naman sila when I came here, and didn't even check my bags... I didn't even declare anything sa customs declaration form ko since most stuffs I brought were personal use items and not new. Kaso if you brought items that are way too much for personal use (like 10 laptops, or 900 CDs), masisilip ka... and you wouldn't want to catching their attention. When I came to visit sa manila, and came back here, I brought 8 balikbayan boxes (2 each, and there were 4 of us), and I didn't declare anything, I brought around 400 CDs (2 in 100pc spindle, the rest were in 50 or 100pc leather CD cases) and were spread around sa baggage so di naman napansin sa x-ray.
In short, maluwag naman sa customs, pero there are cases na mahigpit sila, tsambahan din siguro. So best thing to do is moderate the amount of stuffs you want to bring in...

@wise yes nsa boundary nga kami ng richmond at new west altho we're still under new west.
@xserver & moon, speaking from my experience when i arrived last week, same as rolandg, hindi naman chineck ng customs yung bagahe ko nor did i declare anything nung pag labas ko. dire-diretso lang ako. i brought in like less than 100 cd/dvd's and most of my downloaded movies and music files were on my external hard drive. however, nung palabas na ako i noticed that one Japanese-looking man caught their attention and they stepped him aside and had him open his baggage. so i guess tama si rolandg, they still do check baggages sa customs pero it looks to me like its random. the safest way to enter for the first time is to avoid bringing in prohibited or controlled items.

@Moon
ok lang to bring DS... what's FC? I assume it similar to R4 or Toptoy or other carts with micro SD card? Anyway, ok lang yun... it's a game device and they won't give you any problems with it...
In my case, nung dumating ako, diretso lang kami, pero may kasabay kaming taga HK, hinalungkat ang bag niya, at nakita yung 2 kilos ng meat... mukhang chinese asado na naka-wrap sa wax paper.... naamoy siguro ng aso or something...
bawal ang meat products... although in our case we had lots of hotdogs (in buns) in our hand carry.... we forgot that we had baon 12 pcs of hotdog sandwiches in our handcarry... and we remember lang when we were in Winnipeg na...

if you haven't paid the landing fee, you should now... unless you are not in a hurry.. The landing fee can be paid at the start of the application and if you already paid then hindi na sila magpapadala ng letter to ask for it, tapos another 3 to 4 weeks for them to process it, tapos saka lang sila hihingi ng passport mo... Kung bayad ka na, eh di Passport request na agad pag ka approve ng medical mo...

Pwede ba magtanong dito about the application for skilled workers in PNP. Nakalagay kasi dito sa form na ito
<click here for link>
yung "family members" ay
You must include your spouse or common law partner and dependent children.
So ibig sabihin kung single ako at walang anak edi di ko siya kailangan palagyan sa parents or siblings since di nakaindicate na Parents or relatives (like bro or sis)??
tapos naulit ulit siya sa background declaration wherein nakalagay ay
<click here for link>
The principal applicant, his/her spouse/common-law partner, and dependent children 18y or older listed in the application for permanent residence must complete their own copy of this form.
So di ko na naman ilalagay ang either parents or any sibling para magfill-up diyan right?
Nakakalito kasi yung instruction. Pero dun sa guide
<click here for link> it clearly indicates sa background declaration na kailangan mo lang include info about your mom and dad pero di na sila kailangan magfill up ng form dahil nga diyan sa instructions na yan above. tama po ba ako?

@nephilim07
It's not complicated... the Background Declaration only serves as background as to where and who your brothers and parents are... The main family in consideration is you and your spouse/kids.... all others like parents or brothers/sisters are called relatives.
So if you apply for immigration, you are just applying either for yourself or if you are married, your family (which does not mean parents or brothers/sisters)...
The normally get the background info so that they can assess who you are (since there are instances that you'd have a common name and common birthday) and also to know if you have relatives in Canada or iin the case of Nominee Applications, if you have relatives outside of the province you are applying for...
In which case, if, for example if you are applying in Manitoba as Nominee, but you have a brother/sister in Ontario, they will assess that you do not have sufficient ties with Manitoba and may be denied.
