LOS ANGELES, California – The son of Bob Arum has been reported missing in the mountains near Seattle forcing the international boxing promoter to abandon a three-city promotional tour to help in the search.
Bob Arum was in Los Angeles Tuesday for the first of three stops on the tour to promote the November 13 Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito junior middleweight title fight.
But Arum left the news conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel early when he learned his son was missing, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday night.
John Arum, 49, was apparently hiking in the mountains near Seattle when he went missing.
"We got a call today that he had gone hiking and is missing, so Bob told the staff this morning that he would leave the tour and take a flight to Seattle," boxing promoter Lee Samuels said. "Bob and his wife, Lovee, have left the tour and proceeded to Seattle."
Arum told the Los Angeles Times before leaving for Washington State, "They've got search parties looking for him right now."
The Pacquiao fight will take place at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. The promotional tour is scheduled to stop in New York Wednesday and then Dallas on Thursday and Friday.
In his last fight, Pacquiao beat Joshua Clottey in Dallas on March 13 in a welterweight bout.

Son of boxing promoter Arum missing in Cascades
By The Associated Press (AP) – 9 hours ago
SEATTLE — Park rangers in the Cascade Mountains are searching for the son of boxing promoter Bob Arum, who went missing while on a camping trip over the weekend.
John Arum was expected to arrive home Sunday after hiking Storm King Peak, but family members grew worried when the 49-year-old environmental lawyer did not return. An accomplished hiker, John Arum has been on a quest to climb the 100 highest summits in Washington.
Family members told The Associated Press on Wednesday that rangers had found his campsite, but there were indications that John Arum had not been there since Saturday.
"We're keeping our fingers crossed," said Arum's son-in-law, Todd duBoef. "The last I talked to Bob, they were sending a helicopter up, but the area where he's missing, there's so much timber that it's hard to see anything. We're just waiting to hear something."
Bob Arum learned Tuesday that his eldest son was missing while in Los Angeles, at the start of a three-city media tour to promote Manny Pacquiao's next fight against Antonio Margarito. He left for Seattle that afternoon and connected with park rangers orchestrating the search.
DuBoef took over the rest of the media tour, with stops in New York City on Wednesday and Dallas on Thursday. The fight is scheduled for Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
DuBoef said about eight rangers had been searching on foot for John Arum but had found no trace of him other than his campsite. The weather had been rainy and foggy earlier this week, and Wednesday was the first chance that a helicopter was able to assist in the search.
Park rangers were not immediately available to comment on the search.
Storm King Peak, the area in the northern Cascades where John Arum is believed to be missing, rises more than 8,500 feet above sea level. There is a popular climbing route on the south side, beginning near the Park Creek Pass.
Family members said that John Arum had 18 peaks remaining to reach his goal of climbing the 100 highest in Washington State. Storm King Peak is ranked No. 51.
