IBM Thinkpad users thread

  • Mga repack ba mga yun sir o refurbished?

i dunno kung gumagawa pa din ang lenovo ng brand new batts para sa t400.

i would assume na replica / replacement / non-orig lenovo battery. better bring your laptop and check cycle counts nung battery. here's sample from my x220 -

+++ ThinkPad Battery Status: BAT0 (Main / Internal)
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/manufacturer = SANYO
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/model = 42T4940
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/manufacture_date = 2011-11-15
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/first_use_date = 2012-09-06
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/cycle_count = 154
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/design_capacity = 93240 [mWh]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/last_full_capacity = 70600 [mWh]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/remaining_capacity = 41300 [mWh]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/remaining_percent = 58 [%]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/remaining_running_time_now = 336 [min]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/remaining_charging_time = not_charging [min]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/power_now = -10255 [mW]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/power_avg = -8945 [mW]
    /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/state = discharging

    tpacpi-bat.BAT0.startThreshold = 96 [%]
    tpacpi-bat.BAT0.stopThreshold = 100 [%]
    tpacpi-bat.BAT0.forceDischarge = 0

    Charge = 58.5 [%]
    Capacity = 75.7 [%]

Baka magkaroon ng technical glitch along the way or hindi ma-recognize ng laptop mismo (might be the case) . Baka meron sa inyo may nakaka-alam. Salamat!
  • thank you sir ryanrudolf sa reply.

I will post some pictures later along with the upgrades and goodies.
  • pa-PM na lang po sir regarding the OEM battery for T430. Salamat
  • Mga sir lost my trackpoint nub today. May DIY solution ba para dito?
Or pa PM naman kung may recommended seller kayo. :D
  • ^ I bought mine online (ebay) mura lang pero shipping from china or hk takes 2 weeks to one month
  • ^ Too good to be true ba sa ebay yung 100php for 10pcs? Haha
  • ^ mura talaga yan

I'm from Cebu but I'm worried sa shipping and tax. I'm planning to buy x230 preferable i7 or pwede ako nalang mag upgrade. I'm planning some upgrades aswell pati sa LCD Panel.

  • x230 preferable i7 or pwede ako nalang mag upgrade

X Series Thinkpads have processors that are soldered to the system board, which means that they're not upgradable (unless you replace the entire board).

IMO, better find a local seller than ebay.
  • 6months na si x220 ko! aiming for at least 5yrs old and many more years to come!

  • @adonis827

    Thanks more power!
  • Hi Sirs,

San po pwedeng bumili ng cheap replacement keyboard for Lenovo Thinkpad T440p? Thanks in advance
  • Just performed a live upgrade (apt full-upgrade) from Debian 8 to 9 on two of my Thinkpads (X61 and X220). Download took around 3 hours @ 1 mbps for each, around 1.2GB of DEB files were downloaded.
  • ^ grats! im on Sid but havent dist-upgrade yet.

OTOH, thinkpad retro is real! gonna save up for it!
  • ^ Do you need to dist-upgrade on sid?

Looks like my experiment with using Deepcool Z5 thermal paste on my X220 is a failure. I'm getting horrible temperature spikes a few months after applying it.

Then I messed up and ordered the wrong Thermal Grizzly paste (Aeronaut instead of Kryonaut). It's still overseas with my sister, but I don't think I can wait for it to arrive. I need to decide on a replacement paste:

    - Go back to NT-H1
    - Try DeepCool Z9
    - Try Prolimatech PK-1
    - Try Arctic MX-4

  • ^ yes you have to dist-upgrade on Sid too, but i dont do it too often, scared to break things.

looking for a 2nd thinkpad for my kids, torn between x220 and x230. both have good prices, around 5.5k. i already have existing x220, should i get another x220? or get the x230 and upgrade the parts? hmmm

regarding thermal paste, im using the MX4

  • Get the X230 since you need to prepare the kids for the chiclet keyboards in newer Thinkpads. :P
Unless you want to turn them into diehard classic keyboard fans. :D

The cheapskate in me wants to try the Z9 since it's half the price of the MX4.
Reviews say that the Z9 is decent but its viscosity requires heat in order to spread well. That means I need to borrow a hair dryer. :P

    Awesome. :D

I've recently replaced the system board of a T61 14.1 inch widescreen model. It's just my first time disassembling a ThinkPad with a roll cage/structure frame. Quite a learning experience, I should say. :)

Fortunately the replacement board came with its own structure frame, so I didn't need to reuse the old one, which is a good thing since it had a fair bit of corrosion and would have taken a lot of time to clean.
It also came with a faster processor (Core 2 Duo T7500) and a heatsink, which is a nice bonus.
