  • ^Question is, will you be satisfied with that bike out of the box? If yes, go for it.
  • @marialigaya

yung first bike ko dati is Jamis x3 trail. stock parts lahat around 15k ko nabili. gamit ko sya pang bike to work, pang exercise / pasyal pasyal within the area. unti unti upgrade ng pyesa kapag nasira / naluma. from stock fork naging epicon, from chopsuey groupset naging slx.

imo test ride mo muna yung 9k bike. kung OK ang fit sa iyo and OK ang ride then go for it. enjoy the ride and paunti unti kung ma-outgrow mo na yung stock parts or may nasira then do the upgrade.

sa ngayon ang gamit ko is Norco 29er. all stock parts and nag upgrade lang ako ng pyesa after 5yrs - from stock fork to rigid fork, mech brake to disk brake, chopsuey shimano to deore
  • anu po masuggest nyo, hanggang 15k po budget, salamat.

Well, depende sayo kung saan mo gagamitin eh. Pangte-trail mo ba? or mix of riding? Do you need a front suspension? or parang pang gravel / comfortable type of riding?

For beginner, you may want to check the overall weight of the bike. You might end up with a bike that is too heavy for you to pedal.

I'm not familiar with the local pricing, pero yung mga nakikita ko sa youtube @15K ay pasok na sa budget mo. Check mountain peak which appear to be well-made.

I would also skip this drivetrain, and look for at least an alivio derailleur (or kahit altus) if possible:

    • FD: Shimano Tourney
    • RD: Shimano Tourney

You can upgrade parts along the way, but that would be more costly and time consuming in the long run.

  • salamat sa nag reply about tires.
  • @all

    Quite out of topic.

Just wanna ask kung anong mare-recommend nyong kapote (raincoat)? Price range is around 800 up to 1,500.

    TiA sa mga sasagot.. ^^V
  • guys, i just had my bike stolen in quiapo a while ago.

please help me by sharing my fb post. i will really appreciate it.
    <click here for link>

  • Continental Race King

eto gamit ko. sobrang sulit for me. good rolling sa paved road, good enough grip sa trail but fast also.

Just wanna ask kung anong mare-recommend nyong kapote (raincoat)? Price range is around 800 up to 1,500.

halos lahat, mababasa ka din. either sa pawis or ulan. i ended up not using any kapote. pag BTW at papasok palang at umulan na, i dont ride. pag pauwi na at inabutan ng ulan, ok lang. sarap actually mag bike ng umuulan(for mtb, bad trip pag RB). incase need mo talaga, yung poncho type, putulan mo lang ng haba baka sumabit sa RD or gulong or matakpan yung rear light mo(very important to have pag umuulan).

    re: Lock
    Master U lock level 10.
    Pro: anti bolt cutter
    Cons: heavy(1.2kls)

pag MTB talaga gusto mo(which i personally prefer), no choice ka, usually mabibigat talaga ganyang price range na bike. wag ka nalang mag madali bumili, check mo components(hydraulic brakes, more gears sa likod, replaceable/upgradeable parts).
  • yung trek x-caliber 2021 ba eh okay sa panglong ride? thanks.

  • ok yan. Trek yan eh. You're paying for the brand as well, ika nga.

Siguro frame is probably not the most important part to consider when buying a bike designed for long rides.

I would consider in the following order:
    1. Groupset
    2. Brakeset
    3. Wheelset
    4. Frame
    5. Fork (rigid or air fork)
    6. Other parts

4 or 5 can be interchangeable. If you're not brand conscious, any frame from reputable brands will suffice. Kasi if you're into long rides bibigat din yang bike mo sa mga gamit na dadalhin mo, so the weight of the frame does not matter. I was contemplating on upgrading it and he suggested Vision which was already the frame I'm using. That's a budget friendly frame and I've used it for around 7,000 km already at Bolany lang yung air fork ko.

I'm sure marami pa dito na mas experienced at may alam sa bike or tanong ka sa mga well known vloggers like IanHow or Doc na long rides talaga trip or even FB cycling groups.

  • Chainrings SRAM SX Eagle, 30 tooth, steel

Yung 30T chainring mas suitable sya for trails (off road).
  • @imscythe
    i bet to disagree
#1 frame, must be fitted sayo/ sukat

priority sakin endurance is yung comfort nung frame, saddle, pedals, at handlebar

#2 wheelset, why? eto yung lumalapat sa road, if mas effective yung tyres mo sa road, slick tyres if road gamit, knobby tyres for trails

as a newbie since 2019, groupset lagi rin ako nakatingin, pero ang totoo every 3-4years nagbabago o nagkakaroon ng update. and i was wrong hindi ako nag aral mabuti about frames, geometry

  • ^^

  • for bike upgrades, based on my experience eto ang ginawa ko -
stock spring fork upgrade to rigid fork
stock mechanical disk brake upgrade to shimano hydraulic brake
chopsuey groupset upgrade to 1x10 shimano groupset
  • @evincar

Kahit nagkamali ka ng bili like it's one size smaller than your ideal frame ay pwede pa rin yan. You can easily adjust through your seatpost, stem, saddle mararamdaman at malalaman mo naman yan after several rides. Other than that like weight, it's not that important for me.

I used Shimano Tourney TZ before and boy that thing becomes harder to shift over the course of time and tatalon-talon na kaya tuno na naman.

Ano ba chief yung criteria or priority mo for long ride, ano yung mga dadaanan mo, gaano kalayo? Are you looking for comfortable ride but slower pace? or looking for something fast to do a long ride in shorter time? or somewhat in the middle?

Personally, nababagalan ako sa MTB for long ride but that's just me. YMMV

How much is it yung trek? Kung 50K+ yan I won't get it. I would rather get a Devel frame and have it custom build instead. There is really nothing special on that trek, you basically get a heavy frame and an entry level component.

Hubs Front: Bontrager alloy, 28 hole, sealed bearing, 6-bolt rotor mount, 15x110mm Boost
Rear: Formula DCL-141Q, 28 hole, sealed bearing, 6-bolt rotor mount, Boost141 axle, HG driver

...and who uses a QR141 5mm axle nowadays? You'll be stuck with it, and will probably become miserable upgrading your wheelset (if that is your plan). Thing is, this frame is using a non-industry standard rear dropout. Nobody would want it having to deal with subpar conversion kit than a real beefier thru axle.

Lastly, it came with SX RD. Maraming complain sa SRAM SX durability which is described by many as made of tin can.
  • There is really nothing special on that trek, you basically get a heavy frame and an entry level component.

totoo yan. overpriced ang trek. pag tinignan mo specs ang olats. mas ok pa mag assemble.
  • #1 frame

Agree. Buy the best frame your budget can allow. The rest can be easily upgraded as your skills develop. There's no need to upgrade until your skill exceed the part/s. It amuses me to see high end parts on mediocre frames. The frame is the most important component. Especially for mtb. I wouldn't trust so so frames when I do jumps and drops on the trail. But then if you say pang long ride lang naman, then why get an mtb. Get a road bike. Search for Cycling Connect Japan for very good preloved road bike deals. (Hope this is okay, edit ko na lang if not admin hehe). You can pm me too if you want.

totoo yan. overpriced ang trek. pag tinignan mo specs ang olats. mas ok pa mag assemble.

When I looking to buy my first mtb, sa mga branded na mtb Giant ang isa sa mga sulit na built bikes. For the same budget you will get better specs with Giant.

You can easily adjust through your seatpost, stem, saddle mararamdaman at malalaman mo naman yan after several rides.
I do not know much sa road bike pero sa mtb very important na tama ang size ng frame mo. Pag nag adjust ka ksi sa seat or sa stem mag-iiba na control mo, which sometimes is not what you want. It's best to get the right size outright. Kaya nga sinasabi namin get the best frame right from the start so that minimal ang adjustment. Pero again, kung pang long ride mo lang naman, then yes it matters much less.
