The LCD Monitors Thread: Tips, Tricks, Tweaks, New Products and Reviews

  • @Dr_Mike
I guess ill stick to 27" monitors. Naisip ko rin na baka mahirap makita lahat if its 32inches and i read somewhere na pareho lang pixel density ng 1080p 24" at 1440p 32" so i might be sacrificing sharpness and clarity for a bigger screen.

Usually for 1440p, recommended ang 27-inch monitor because it gives good pixel density and sharp looking fonts when you are seated close to the monitor like at a desk. But if you are seated farther away like reclining on your chair or you have a deep desk, then a 32-inch monitor will provide the same benefit. Yung maganda din sa 32-inch screen is you don't need to lean forward from your reclining position just to read text because the fonts are still readable.

Ill be upgrading to a 2nd hand 1070ti once i get a monitor. Plan ko ilower nalang muna yung settings to get high framerates.

Yung GTX 1070 should be fine for 1440p gaming and with Apex Legends kaya naman ang 70 fps - 90 fps framerate at 1440p. I don't recommend upgrading to GTX 1070 Ti kasi parang maliit yata ang jump from GTX 1070. Mas sulit kung ang next GPU upgrade mo is at least RTX 2060 or if budget is willing, RTX 2070 or 2nd hand GTX 1080 Ti.

Regarding TN panels. I dont think i can live with the viewing angles. Although primarily for FPS ko gagamitin, baka magswitch ako entirely to a traditional desk setup if magustuhan ko yung visual upgrade ng 1440p. If mangyari yun, i need to be able to play in a slouching position for comfort.

Unfortunately weakness ng TN panel ang viewing angles, especially when viewing the screen from above or below. Pero yung side-to-side viewing angles niya are passable as long as centered ka parin sa screen. If you are seated farther away but centered ang view mo, hindi na noticeable ang off-angle color shift ng TN panel. Yun lang mas nagiging conscious ka sa seating position mo kasi you want to be viewing the screen straight on hehe...

Keep in mind na yung HKC MG271Q and Gamdias Atlas DHD-323C are curved monitors, so may sweet spot din sila when it comes to viewing distance. You want to be close enough para yung screen will fill-up your field of view and give a sense of depth to the image. At the same time you also want to be far enough na hindi hirap ang peripheral vision mo keeping track of objects near the edges of the screen.

Pero so far im leaning towards the HKC because of the price.

Yung ghosting or smearing usually makikita mo yan when doing quick side-to-side movement with a dark object on a lighter background. Mas nagiging noticeable siya at low refresh rates (like around 50Hz - 70Hz) kasi yung pixels ng VA panel bumabagal din the lower the refresh rate. If you keep your monitor's refresh rate high (like around 100Hz - 144Hz) then almost hindi na noticeable ang ghosting kasi mas-mabilis mag transition ang pixels. Yung suggestion ko when using FreeSync / G-Sync on a VA gaming monitor is try to keep your framerate high para maintained din ang high refresh rate ng panel.

I think most VA gaming monitors now like HKC and Gamdias are using Samsung SVA panels which are decently fast and hindi masyado prone to ghosting. Although case-to-case basis parin kasi some monitors have better overdrive circuitry than others. You have to check for reviews and user feedback to see which monitor has less visible ghosting. In real world use mahirap din mapansin ang ghosting sa VA panel kung mataas ang refresh rate like 144Hz. Pero once you see it sometimes mahirap din "unsee" kasi yung eyes mo naturally follow the smeary trail. So depende din sayo kung magiging bothered ka by the ghosting or hindi naman noticeable to the point na ini-ignore mo nalang when gaming :-)
  • Thank you sir sleepygeepy! Ill take note of everything you said. As much as I want to splurge for a more expensive and better monitor from known brands, di talaga kaya ng budget. Ill go for the HKC model. Just looking for a good deal right now in the used market. Thanks!
  • @ennovy12
I have a 60hz IPS monitor and I am planning to upgrade. Will I notice a difference kung bibili ako ng 75hz na freesync monitor or should I go with 144hz?

I would say from 60Hz to 75Hz baka hindi noticeable ang difference and both will look almost the same when playing games. Ang 75Hz refresh rate is only 3.33 milliseconds faster than 60Hz and I don't think most gamers can tell the difference if both monitors are placed side-by-side.

Para noticeable ang difference I suggest going for a 144Hz monitor with FreeSync. Hindi lang sa games mo makikita ang improvement but also when browsing, watching movies, or working on the Windows desktop kasi napaka-smooth at steady yung image quality.

I have i3 8100 and rx 570 btw. Thanks !

So any excess frames above 75 fps masasayang lang.
  • Thank you sir sleepygeepy. I’ll go for 144hz monitor upgrade na lang since CS:GO, NBA and FIFA lang naman madalas ko nilalaro.
  • Any suggestion for my profrssional esport player brother? Current setup is I5 6500+16gb ram+gtx 1070.. pangcompetitive po sana..

Any suggestion for my professional esport player brother? Current setup is I5 6500+16gb ram+gtx 1070.. pangcompetitive po sana.

Look for TN panel monitors capable of 144Hz - 240Hz refresh rate, around 24-inches to 25-inches in size to reduce eye movement. Pwede din ang 27-inch monitor but ideally the viewing distance should be farther so the whole screen is still visible from your brother's field of view.

For very high fps games like CS:GO, Overwatch, Fortnite etc where framerates can reach above 200 fps - 300 fps, I suggest go for a 240Hz monitor to minimize reaction times and input lag as much as possible. But for games where very high fps is difficult to achieve like PUBG, Battlefield V, Apex Legends etc then a 144Hz - 180Hz monitor should be fine.

Some suggestions if you are looking for a 240Hz capable monitor:

Php 24,300 = ASUS ROG Swift XG258Q (240Hz with FreeSync)
    Php 28,500 = BenQ Zowie XL2546 (240Hz with DyAc)
    Php 29,999 = ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q (240Hz with G-Sync)
    Php 34,430 = BenQ Zowie XL2740 (240Hz)

  • hi mga sir, planning to buy an Optix MAG241C VA Panel 1080p monitor but i saw a review wherein MPRT makes the display show some "jaggedness" and you can't enable MPRT 1ms response time along with 144Hz refresh rate. Are these true based on your actual usage?

My 2nd option is an HKC M27G1Q VA Panel 1440p monitor but i believe it uses the same VA panel with 8ms response time (not sure if it uses MPRT too) (more like a rebrand MSI monitor). Kamusta naman po daily usage ng monitor na to any issue or concern? (for those who own this)

I'm upgrading from LG 23MP68VQ IPS Panel 75Hz monitor.

hi mga sir, planning to buy an Optix MAG241C VA Panel 1080p monitor but i saw a review wherein MPRT makes the display show some "jaggedness" and you can't enable MPRT 1ms response time along with 144Hz refresh rate. Are these true based on your actual usage?

I think the reviewer misunderstood how MPRT works because he turned on FreeSync which disabled the Anti Motion Blur feature. So MPRT was not running while he was demoing the monitor on his video. You can see it from 4:58 - 5:24 where he turns on FreeSync and is unable to switch on Anti Motion Blur because it is greyed-out.

MPRT is Samsung's version of blur reduction which flashes the backlight on-and-off very quickly similar to Nvidia ULMB. The difference is Samsung does another step by only flashing the LED lights while the screen is scanning from top-to-bottom. So instead of the whole screen flashing on-and-off, the flashing also goes from top-to-bottom in-sync with the monitor scanning.

In practice, MPRT works well if you can run the game at very high framerates consistently and you are able to max out the monitor refresh rate. That means your minimum framerate is 120 fps (for 120Hz operation) or 144 fps (for 144Hz operation). If you turn on MPRT or Anti Motion Blur feature while your game is running below the refresh rate (below 144 fps) then you might get dizzy or get weird artifacts because of the double-images / crosstalk :-)
  • planning to upgrade from ag271qx any recommendation? this already a good monitor base sa mga reviews lalo na after i calibrated the color. But i want ips sana na kasing bilis din ng TN ok ba kung mag ad27qd ako? or magwait na lang ako sa mga new incoming monitor like ultragear lg 27gl850g, acer vg271u or agon ag273qcx or siguro madami pa lalabas? makuntento muna? :)
  • @sleepygeepy
Thank you for the very informative explanation regarding MPRT. Upon checking HKC also uses MPRT but on a much slower rate (4-8ms response time) - also a samsung VA panel.

I'm still thinking which monitor to buy though.. If meron sana installment with 0% interest na HKC M27G1Q haha.. I'm not sure though kung bakit parang di ko pinapansin ung HKC M24G1F...
  • @cyclode
But i want ips sana na kasing bilis din ng TN ok ba kung mag ad27qd ako?

Based on early reviews, medyo mabagal yung Innolux IPS panel na gamit ng Gigabyte AD27QD. So don't expect na kasing sharp or blur-free yung image quality niya as your TN monitor in fast motion sequences. But expect color, contrast, and viewing angles to be a lot better dahil sa IPS panel with wide color gamut so very vibrant yung image quality compared to TN.

Bago palang kasi yung Innolux IPS panel so baka kailangan pa ng updates or tweaking from the manufacturer in future revisions. Possible din na baka may firmware update si Gigabyte to make the panel perform faster. Sayang din, kasi ang Gigabyte AD27QD is one of the cheapest 1440p 144Hz IPS gaming monitors available. Yung cheaper alternative is the Sting Pro T2703GQ ni dairyqueenpc, but no idea on the quality or reliability. Also hindi tayo sure kung tatagal ang brand just like Infini M7.

Kung gusto mo ng fast IPS gaming monitor na 1440p resolution, best bet mo are the G-Sync models like AOC AG271QG, Acer Predator XB271HU, ASUS PG279Q, or Viewsonic XG2703-GS. All these monitors use AU Optronics AHVA panels na capable of 144Hz up to 165Hz overclocked by the G-Sync module. Nasa 4ms - 5ms ang pixel response times nila so more than fast enough for 144Hz.

or magwait na lang ako sa mga new incoming monitor like ultragear lg 27gl850g, acer vg271u or agon ag273qcx or siguro madami pa lalabas?

So baka forever ka maghintay hehe... Konti lang ang PC shops na gusto mag-sell ng premium gaming monitors kasi mahirap din ibenta and keep in stock. Pansin mo mas pinu-push dito ang mga budget brands like HKC, SpecterPro, Gamdias and others :-)
  • @jhaiyu
Upon checking HKC also uses MPRT but on a much slower rate (4-8ms response time) - also a samsung VA panel.

I think most gaming monitors now that are using Samsung SVA panel will have that 1ms MPRT feature. Possible na hindi advertised sa box but chances are yung feature nasa OSD menu. Most gaming monitors with Samsung SVA panel have around 7ms - 8ms pixel response times on average which is barely enough for 144Hz, but should be fine for 120Hz operation. Although some monitors have better implementation of overdrive allowing faster pixel response times and less visible ghosting or blurring.

I'm still thinking which monitor to buy though.. If meron sana installment with 0% interest na HKC M27G1Q haha.. I'm not sure though kung bakit parang di ko pinapansin ung HKC M24G1F...

Kung moderate ang specs ng PC mo, MSI MAG241C or HKC M24G1F might be a better choice kasi yung 1080p resolution will allow for higher framerates in games. Yung variable refresh rate range ng VA gaming monitors ngayon nasa 48Hz - 144Hz so you want your game to stay above 48 fps as much as possible. Also may benefit din ang high framerates with VA gaming monitors kasi it keeps the refresh rate high (with FreeSync) so lessened din ang visible ghosting / smearing ng VA panel.

Kung powerful naman ang specs ng PC mo and is capable of above 60 fps framerates at 1440p, then I think better option ang HKC M27G1Q. Medyo demanding lang sa GPU ang 1440p but at least may headroom ka pa for future videocard upgrades.

One thing to take note when buying HKC monitors is make sure to check for dead pixels. Based on buying experience dito sa thread, madami nakaka-encounter ng dead pixels when testing / checking the monitor at the shop. Hindi ako sure kung quality control issue yan on the part of HKC, or if yung PC shop is trying to sell the units with dead pixels (baka makalusot). Either way make sure to carefully test and check the monitor just to be safe at para maka-iwas din sa hassle of returning the monitor / RMA.

Check mo din sir yung AOC C24G1 if you are looking for an alternative to MSI MAG241C. Also check mo din sir yung Gamdias monitors at baka good alternative sila to HKC :-)

  • @kanonroi

Hard to say sir, kasi wala masyado reviews yung MSI MAG241C and even less for Gamdias HD236C. Suggestion ko is hanap ka ng mga user feedback for both monitors then decide kung worth it yung price premium ng MSI over Gamdias.

Worth reading din mga comments here regarding MSI MAG241C:

For Gamdias Atlas HD236C... may ongoing discussion sa reddit but only few comments:

  • just bought MSI Optix MAG241C earlier... badtrip naputol ung 1pc of Vesa Mounting screw.. 3x screws lang tuloy napang mount ko sa monitor... masikip kasi ung screw hole and so may konting force sa pag-ikot ko nung screw mount pero bigla nakalas ung buntot dun sa body hayzz..
  • Thank you master sleepygeepy isa ka talagang henyo!
  • Good day guys. Sa mga naka zowie xl2411 dyan with rtx gpu. Ano solution nyo para mapagana nyo un 144hz? Iisa lng kasi nakikita kong working adapter na capable of 144hz e. Outside Philippines pa tapos ang mahal pa. Hays. Thanks
  • Hello,
    Any feedback?
    Planning to buy one.
  • @all

pa-suggest naman po ng freesync monitor na mag-work sa gsync with 1080p resolution and at 24inch VA panel under 15k. had to replace my RX580 with an RTX 2060 kaya yung LG 23mp68 na monitor ko hindi ko na magagamit yung freesync since hdmi lang meron siya. any input will be appreciated.

    eto po pinagppilian ko

    MSI optix MAG241c
Gamdias Atlas HD23c (may heating issue daw)
    HKC M24G1F.

    Tia..
  • Hello guys. Been backreading pero I seem to have missed it. Just want to know if meron nga ba locally available na monitor with the following features:

    1. 24” or 27”
    2. Qhd/1440p
    3. 144hz
    4. Gsync compatible freesync
  • my review na po ba tyo ng Aorus GP AD27QD? and kaya na po ba ng RTX2060 ang 1440 144hz or need ko mag step up sa 2070. thank you

Take a look at these two monitors:

    Php 13,950 = MSI OPTIX MAG241C
    Php 14,900 = AOC C24G1

Based dun sa Freesync / VRR Compatibility with Nvidia Megalist, both monitors are G-Sync compatible.

Yes, may kamahalan parin mga 144Hz 1440p monitors with the exception of budget brands like HKC and Gamdias.

Yung HKC M27G1Q madami narin nakabili and so far positive naman ang experience nila with the monitor. Just make sure lang to buy the monitor from a trusted shop and also check the monitor for any defects or dead pixels. Yung Gamdias Atlas DHD 323C is a 32-incher and looks to be a good budget 1440p gaming monitor. Pero wala pa ako masyado nakikita na user feedback sa FB or in other forums.

Kung ang PC mo is not that powerful and you are still on a midrange videocard like GTX 1060 or RX 580, then consider mo muna mag 144Hz 1080p monitor for the meantime :-)
  • question lang regarding HKC NB34C ano refresh rate nya? gsync or freesync capable ba siya? thanks.

Not sure kung G-Sync compatible but si sir Dyaems bought one recently and baka pwede niya i-confirm. Check mo sir yung comments / experience niya with the monitor a few posts up :-)
