  • sa deeco electronics cubao or s commonwelth.. :)
  • ^shintsan

  • The adapter you need is NOT a regular transformer like those \"wall warts\" sold at hardware stores. Those are unregulated power supplies that will burn out your enclosure and/or HD. What you need is a switching power supply. These are the rectangular \"power bricks\" that come with 3.5\" enclosures and laptops. The PSU\'s inside computers are also switching power supplies. The Newstar NSC-24 mentioned earlier is an example of a switching power supply too.

If you\'re having difficulty finding the Newstar, CD-R King sells switching power supplies for laptop use that will work with your enclosure:

This one can output 12v at 4.5A, and has other voltages as well:

It has multiple tips/adapters so one of these will probably fit your enclosure.

NOTE: Make sure you set the voltage and polarity of the plug correctly! Otherwise it might wreck your enclosure.

If you want a really cheap but less-portable option, you only need an old but working computer PSU. With a little rewiring you can get the 12v off the Molex 4-pin plugs from the PSU. You won\'t have to worry about the amps because the rails of even old PSU can supply at least 2A.

  • @peorth

sir thank you for thoroughly explaining to me what I really need and specifiying the product that I can easily get localy. This definitely saved me a lot of time and effort, best response! thank you sir =) let me give you a positive feed back =)
  • You\'re welcome! :)
  • @Peorth:

Nice take and feedback on this. I\'m currently looking for a 12V 1.5A (18W) power adapter for my WD MyBook external hdd.
    Here\'s a few questions po:
    1) So, even if an adapter has a well-over 1.5A rating (example 4.5A), this can still lower down and provide 1.5A for my requirements (HDD)?
    2) Can your suggested items above (CD-R King and Newstar) accommodate this desired rating as well (for my hdd)?
    3) is this item from ebay 12V, 1.5 a smps or unregulated, can it power up my hdd? <click here for link>
    4) @bestbuyme2, will that ebay item work for me too?

Appreciate the feedback, thanks in advance sirs!

  • pinaka murang 220v-12v (12v output is cigarette lighter female plug) transformer is 80 pesos sa cdrking. but its not designed for portable hard drives and ewan ang amps
  • @moshm, kahit 12V 1000A pa yan wala magiging problema. ibig sabihin lang ng malakas na ampere is kaya nya isupply ang ganung peak current. ang importante lang po yung voltage. so ok ang 12v 4.5A

    1. Yes. The current (ampere or miliampere) rating of a power supply specifies how much the current the PSU can supply, NOT how much it will force into the device. People often confuse current and voltage. A power supply rated at 12v 2A versus another rated at 12v 100A will always provide 12 volts. The only difference is that the first can supply up to 2A while the latter can give up to 100A. If the device only sucks 1A of current from a PSU, the 2A PSU will have 1A capacity remaining while the 100A PSU will have 99A more to give. In other words, an amp rating is current capacity and not how much current the PSU will \"push\" into your unit.

    2. The CD-R King power supply is 12v at 4.5A, which is more than enough for your HDD requirements. I think the Newstar is rated at 3A, so both will work with your enclosure.

    3. That link doesn\'t provide enough information if it\'s a regulated power supply. It likely is, considering that a CCTV camera is a sensitive device. You should ask the seller directly regarding this info. The worse case scenario is that it\'s actually just a transformer that outputs roughly 12v, which will likely destroy your WD drive.

  • dun malapit samin meron
  • ^_^

I recently bought AVR 3k fr freezer, emailed my concern regarding installation connections, got a call from their customer service within the day.
