Raspberry Pi credit-card sized computer

I watch a lot every season.

if you have a HEVC encoded video vs a standard h264, ang laki ng pinagkaiba in terms of file size (eg, a 1080p video one is only 1gig-ish size and one is around 8gig, both manage to get the same image quality).

if youre a netfilx savy and have a slow internet speed, then hevc capable hardware is a plus for you.
  • thank you very much polka and mariolouis!

i rarely see HEVC at Hi10p videos but I didn't realize na mahirap pala siya ma-play, i usually watch using my desktop or laptop and i always thought na kayang kaya siya i-play ng rpi and others.

since i rarely have those kind of videos and i can still watch them on desktop or laptop, i guess for my case better to get those cheap android tv box or tablet. i'll look into those but off topic na siya :P

i'll probably get rpi for other project but not as media player
  • hey there guys

im using RPi2 for downlaods and also to play movies,
  • ^yes your right, but it can also be done by a android STB "easily"

the point here is, there's no need for a rpi to be a media player, its just a a expensive thing and most of the time it may require some average computer skills to be able to operate that thing, a android STB can be used by everyone (assuming they know how to plug things and have experience with android phones) cheap and readily available in almost any electronic appliance stores nationwide.
  • ^ yep thanks!

well we can use rpi anyway we want naman, especially for those who wants to explore or experiment :)
  • I would like to setup my own vpn server para wala ng monthly subscription. Hindi ko lang maumpisahan. :-(

    Welcome rhapsodos!
  • may nakita na ba kayong ONVIF server app for Raspberry Pi... might be nice to make your own 1080P raspberry Pi ONVIF compliant security camera...

Retropie Project.

  • @mariolouis

you can install openwrt on it, once installed meron na yan GUI interface yan at pwede mo na ma install yung openvpn or pptp server (which one you want)

    @rolandg

you can just setup a mjpeg based IP camera, it should technically work with any DVR available in the market (even the cheap china made ones that is commonly available here in TPC listing).
  • Just sharing my Raspberry Pi setup. I configured 1 sdcard to contain KODI, Raspbian and Retropie.

    ?

DVRs can only read from ONVIF.. MJPG streaming needs some software like Motion but locally (or network drive) but I'd need some other software management tool for the files (like a DVR)... I currently have CCTV system and it would be nice to add more cameras to my system...
  • hello saan ba may mabibilihan ng ganito?? or kahit pinaka maiksing hdmi cord?

  • Polka
Nice suggestion. Thanks!
  • @rolandg

    @Polka

The Synology I think support RTSP (which we can use sa Raspberry Pi), and some of the other I think support mjpeg streaming... pero most NVR/DVR only supports ONVIF dahil yun ang common standard... ONVIF uses RTSP streaming (same as Raspberry Pi) pero it wraps the RTSP under it's own communication layer/API (sort of like a standard protocol like FTP, SAMBA, etc.)... I can read RTSP streams off from my camera, pero the DVR can only communicate with the camera using ONVIF... in this case, parang OS ang ONVIF and the RTSP streams are manage by ONVIF...

Raspberry Pi can output RTSP, pero it cannot communicate with the DVR without ONVIF so the DVR cannot store the Raspberry Pi RTSP streams...

Hehe

    TIA
  • ^assuming there's no transcoding needed to play the video on the client side it should work (well kind of, assuming the bitrate of the video is high enough to compensate about 50-60mb/s transfer speed, that's 6-7MB/s)

  • Is there a way I could use my Playstation DS4 controller to control KODI installed in my raspberry?

Sabi ng support wala daw taxes or additional charge from customs kahit delivery from UK?

Tama ba to? Parang mahirap maniwala na walang tax. :) hehe

Walang customs charges, pero lagi may tax. Di na mawawala tax :D
  • Magkano damage sa tax for 2k na RPi 3 B?
  • by rule, anything that is consumed by human is taxable (except on some items that is considered essential, like Rice, Corn, any vegetables, even farmers are waived from taxation).

kung walang tax yan, there's a high chance na illegal yan at smuggle yung item.

This is common practice in Philippine market.
  • Unfortunately not. The raspberry PI only has 1 USB port, which connects to a hub chip that has a built-in LAN adapter. That's why its performance as a file server isn't great.

You're better off with a Celeron J1800 or J1900 board.
  • @doodzie

pwede mo gamitin yung openwrt at install mo sa rpi mo, although it will work as expected as you want minus the media player thing since openwrt is not capable of doing that, if you plug rpi on to the tv or monitor, makikita mo lang is boot log ng openwrt which is all but text.
  • @all, worth it ba ang pi 2 model b+ second hand for 1000 pesos? unit+ case , gagamitin ko sana sa retropie setup ko,
  • ^mura na yan sir. Around 1.5k yung mga nakikita kong 2nd hand nyan.
  • yeah, with the price unit + case sulit na yan. with case alone nasa 350 yan sa lazada or around 500+ pag sa mga local store or tpc listing.
