New US envoy vows to work for improved PHL-US ties
“The President was kind enough to give me a lot of time. We covered whole range of issues on US-Philippines partnership. It was a terrific start and I was looking forward to working with President Duterte’s team to strengthen that partnership,” Kim said.
Kim replaced Philip Goldberg, who had a falling out with Duterte. Duterte called Goldberg gay and criticized him for allegedly meddling in the last presidential elections.
“I’m deeply committed to make everything possible to strengthen all the important aspects of this relations,” he said, adding that Manila and Washington’s ties have always been “most enduring” and “special.”
Kim also assured that the strong relations will continue under President-elect Donald Trump, saying America’s commitment to the Philippines has always been consistent regardless of a democratic or republican administration.

Duterte, Cambodia PM ‘may discuss’ South China Sea dispute
The issue of the South China Sea dispute could be discussed by President Rodrigo Duterte and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen when the president embarks on state trips to Cambodia and Singapore next week.
Foreign affairs spokesman Charles Jose said Duterte may raise the South China Sea issue to the Cambodian leader “under the ambit of regional defense and security issue,” adding that Duterte is expected to affirm his resolve for a peaceful resolution to the territorial dispute.
