Globe LTE Users Thread (no piracy, torrent topics/hints)

  • Any news when Globe's 28yo 2G network will be decommissioned?

    LTE's more than 10 years

Windows 7 ended support 2 years ago.

Windows 8 will end support in 1/2 a year from now.

So after nearly 3 decades maybe it is time to upgrade a 2G phone/device to a 4G phone/device?

Para magamit yung spectrum niya for better 5G for all!

  • Walang NTC memo so far so sa kanila na yun.

And relatively significant pa 2G device adoption sa Pinas. Given na currently nae-experience pa economic effects ng pandemic, kinda ill timed if within the next year or so ang shut down lalo na prepaid karamihan ng devices at walang maasahan ang consumers na yun to replace the device but themselves and money from their pocket.

Also, at the rate Globe is refarming, baka mauna pa 3G i-retire. 2G kasi can be maintained with minimal spectrum and Globe has sufficient 900MHz to support 2G (while allotting some to 3G/4G/5G) until external forces force them to and 2G upkeep costs has been relatively low lately they can more or less maintain it.

Also, Globe has to finish deploying VOLTE to most of their subscribers first before they can seriously sunset 2G/3G, which sadly is postpaid pa lang nila nadedeploy.

Was talking to an internal source from Globe the other day. It's possible that they sunset 2G and 3G in a few years na since they're also having a hard time looking for suppliers to maintain the legacy network. They've also noted that in the rural areas, steady decline narin ang naka latch sa legacy 2G and 3G. Mostly nakikita kong maaffect are old M2M machines (old CC POS etc) that are still on GPRS and WCDMA.

Also, they have plans on deploying mmWave once the NTC allocates the spectrum for bidding. :)

old technology pa to pero til now hirap pa sila ideploy, limited to postpaid subscriber lang unlike smart 2020 pa available na to prepaid subs, napaka bagal ng improvement ng globe when it comes to their wireless service, bumawi na lang sila sa fiber offering

I guess that's to be expected. Though I wonder which specific mmwave bands ang ipapa-auction ng NTC.
Hopefully by that time rin eh may mmwave support na mga devices na darating sa Pinas coz mostly sa US pa lang meron or country/network-exclusive variant sa South Korea and Japan.

  • @DMZ

  • @all

  • @Hamz

Wala namang changes sa area ko so far (haven't been places lately so can't check elsewhere)

    B1 : 10MHz
    B3: 10MHz + 5MHz
    B8 : 10MHz
    B28: 15MHz
    B38/B41: 20MHz (*2 for B41, B38 subset of B41)
    B40: 15MHz (*2)
  • @mhax

Wala na sa website nila, at least. And yung existing customers aggressively na rin nila mina-migrate to fiber if covered na sa area.
  • @dmz

  • Any news on the horizon sa VOLTE for prepaid users?
  • Any news on the horizon sa VOLTE for prepaid users?

I've seen posts on FB who got their Globe Prepaid accounts provisioned for VoLTE and VoWiFi via Globe's twitter and messenger support channels :)

not always. random lang though mas madalas these days than before.
  • @Hamz,
Automated pala, I raised a request sa messenger hopefully maactivate.
  • Tried my luck sa pag request ng activation ng volte/vowifi via messenger, and this is their response:

Thank you for waiting. Upon checking, your SIM is active and LTE provided. However, we're sorry to inform you that we cannot activate your VoLTE/VoWIFI right now since upon checking here in our system, there is an ongoing network improvement in your area. As long as there's no delay in our needed equipment and materials, you may be able to see an improvement in your network experience in November 2022. Rest assured that Globe is committed to providing you with better coverage. For future reference, may we also know if you have an alternative mobile number?

configure mo APN mo to use IPV4 only. Either create ka bagong APN or edit your existing one. It varies depende sa OS and device though so search mo na lang sa Google. For iOS, it requires creating a profile/policy via Apple Configurator though which in turn requires a macOS device.
  • iirc may mga iOS APN generator online kaso not sure how much detail/granularity they provide vs actual Apple configurator. Also you must also trust na safe yung site. Thugh it can help especially if you don't have access to a macOS device
  • Is it just me or 20MHz na yung channel size ng Band 28 Globe LTE (up from 15Mhz)?

I just noticed now. Though if true, I wonder how they pulled it off? Binigay na ba ng Smart yung 2.5 Mhz nila to Globe?

Context: Tig-17.5MHz*2 ang Globe and Smart sa Band 28 (700MHz) originally though 15MHz lang deployed coz of allowed LTE channel sizes.
  • First in SEA: Globe tests out new lens antenna tech for better customer experience!

    <click here for link>

The telco also deployed its technical team to perform rigorous on-site testing. At first, the team places four antennas in two Globe cell sites in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and another Cell site On Wheels (COW) at the Head in the Clouds Music and Arts Festival in Manila last December. Both implementations also resulted in positive outcomes.
  • @DMZ naka ipv6 na yung globe prepaid acct ko, ano ba advantage nito over ipv4? mataas yung ping nya, kahit mag on/off ng data ipv6 na talaga binibigay
