Mas unrealistic kung gagaling lang sa martial arts si Mulan out from nothing during her military training. For me parang another chinese kung fu movie lang ito. Pag na-view mo as ganun, di ka naman madidisappoint.
regarding Mulan(2020)
zero knowledge ako dyan kahit yung original animation or the original novel itself.
u know what's the problem with you watching? compare ka kasi ng compare.
I would prolly share your sentiment IF wala din ako background sa Mulan or hindi ko napanood ang animated movie noon. But napanood ko and mahirap hindi i-kumpara sa original. And when I say original, yung version ng Disney ng The Ballad of Mulan. I share the sentiment provided by the image below.
I suggest you watch the animated movie para ma gets mo talaga.
Anyway Im not saying disney has no right to reinvent the story of Mulan nor should only stick to their original work. Of course they are free to do that pero it doesn't mean they are free from potential risks and criticisms and true enough many were dismayed. It didnt really suck but if walang pandemic and sa movie house ko to napanood, eh I would feel slight disappointment kasi ang dating ng live action sa akin ay good for home viewing lang.
Dati more like self empowerment, pero ngayon mas nangibabaw yung devotion sa family. HIndi rin ako nagcompare. I took it as a different movie na talaga.

I am not used to watching this kind of movie coz usually I'm into fast paced, big budget, mind-f*ck films, comedy and romcoms. This one, I dont really know where to categorize it but this is one of those films that makes you wonder where the story is exactly going to take you. The last movie that I saw which is kinda similar to this vibe was Burning (Korean movie which starred Steven Yeun and Yoo Ah-In). Both films I just sat there letting the film roll by itself and with zero idea where the story is headed. This is drama for sure but there is another element at play that makes the storytelling unique.
Anyway it's not really that good but not bad either. Might be a palate cleanser or maybe I was just bored. However the fact that Alexandra Daddario is in it and if I may add, it's a provocative film, might just pique your interest.
