do i need an avr or ups for my gaming rig?

  • Do i have to buy an avr or ups for my rig? Kasi ive been having this problem for 2 years now. Nasira vga ko twice na, first vga was 6850, and yung 2nd 7970, tapos ngayon kelangan ko magpalit uli... sakit na sa bulsa. I was thinking if it is really a requirement to buy an avr or ups or there is a power surge on the outlet that i am using. Any suggestions please.
  • ano ba PSU mo sir?
  • Hec cougar cmx 500w bossing
  • might as well get an AVR. an avr is only insurance if magkaroon ng power fluctuation. sabayan mo ng surge protector for protection against surges. although its not impossible na may problem ang PSU mo

  • sabi nga nila insanity is doing the same thing but expecting different results

same house, same wiring. same psu. so if you want your video card to not die you gotta change/add something. like an AVR

Madugo.

  • UPS ang the best solution dyan kasi nandyan na and basic na kailangan ng isang PC gaya ng automatic voltage regulator, surge and spike protector at power back up. HTH
  • i'd go with both. servo avr first then plug the ups to the servo avr. kahit ang apc does not regulate the voltage if its on mains mode. if the input is 240 volts measure the output its still 240. servo avr continiously monitor the voltage and adjust it to 220 volts everytime there is under or overvoltage. however servo avr does not provide temporary power during outages so if you are working on something data loss is a possibility. although servo avr has power on delay so it also protects you from surges and spikes when power returns. so if you really want to get protected use both. pero kung marami ka budget buy inline ups instead of the more common and cheap line interactive. in an inline ups power is derived from the battery thru a sine wave inverter whether there is power in the input or there is none. the ac supply just charges the battery when there is line ac power. there is complete isolation between the input and output so the output ac voltage is not affected by fluctuation in the ac mains
On the other hand the common line interactive ups merely passes thru the line ac voltage to the output after some filtering. if there is regulation its relay type which is unreliable.

AVR rin mas maganda sa SURPLUS dami branded Panasonic is the best! Panasonic is the BEST Quality pag dating sa A-V-R late 90s naabutan ko pa ung PANASONIC nmin noon mas matanda pa sakin 20 years na gumagana pa kaso ung plug in wire nya may mga ngatngat na kaya inistock nlng ..
  • if budget permits mas ok si UPS kasi may brownout protection :) pero on my side, AVR is already enough. in addition, magastos din si UPS kasi you will need to replace the battery after ilang years of use.

edit: the type of AVR that i am referring is the servo type, not the ones being sold at P400 yung maliit na box :)

btw, experts, if gamit kong avr (servo type) is only 500 watts, tapos ang load ko is mas mataas dun, wala po ba akong magiging issue?

duhh, 450 is less than 500. assuming watts talaga ang rating ng AVR coz commonly its VA not W

besides, your PC is probably using only a fraction of your PSU's capacity even at full load , which means the PSU also only pulls a fraction of its capacity from the socket

    test setup
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2,666MHz RAM
    Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 780
    512GB Crucial MX100 SSD
    Corsair H75 cooler
    Corsair AX860i PSU
    Windows 7 SP1 with Nvidia Forceware 340.52

actual power draw measured at the wall socket at load

    Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition (3.3GHz/4.7GHz) = 220w, 436w if overclocked

if you add a geforce titan X, the card alone at load is 233w

note: this is how you measure the card's power consumption alone

  • Okay lang ba 500w secure avr at 700w generic PSU? Will upgrade my PSU soon kaya lang no budget pa.
