We’ve taken the Transcend DrivePro Body 20 out for a spin, and we’ve been very impressed by its design and its performance. It serves its purpose without any frills, which is exactly what you’d need when it comes to surveillance and security. Now, we’re taking a look at the company’s DrivePro Body 52. It comes with the same form factor as the DrivePro Body 20, but the camera now is detachable to give you more freedom on placements.

Packaging

Transcend ships the DrivePro Body 52 similarly as to how the DrivePro Body 20 came in the package. There’s the same design and print in packaging, which should give perusing users an idea of what they’re going to get. It does, however, come with a couple of differences in inclusions.

Once you open the package, there’s another box that contains the DrivePro Body 52 sitting beside another box with the inclusions. There’s a USB cable for charging and transferring data, a wall adapter, a holster, Velcro, paperwork, and a smaller extra cover without the clip. Some paperwork for manual and other products are also inside.

Design

The Transcend DrivePro Body 52 carries the same form factor as the DrivePro Body 20 as mentioned. There is, however, one big difference starting with the placement of the camera. There’s now a camera module that can be attached via USB Type-C, but you’ll still get the buttons for turning the device and the Wi-Fi on.

Similarly, it still features the 3.5mm jack for data transfers and charging. We still would have preferred a microUSB port for general use. That way, should you eventually lose the cable with 3.5mm plug, you won’t find it difficult if it’s a microUSB.

Usage and Performance

With the DrivePro Body 52, operations are basically the same as the DrivePro Body 20. You’ll only have to turn the switch on to begin recording, and turning it off will stop it. Shots are taken through the 130-degree wide-angle lens in Full HD 1080p. It’s not exactly as wide as the one on the DrivePro Body 20 at 160 degrees, but it will do just fine for your daily usage. The recordings are also done in 3-minute video clips to give you better management. You can also take snapshots quickly with just a push of a button, too.

You’ll also want to download the DrivePro Body app to take full advantage of the device. From there, you can view a livestream feed of the DrivePro Body 52 by connecting your smartphone to the device via Wi-Fi. Now, this one’s actually tricky if you haven’t read the instructions. The DrivePro Body 52 will be the connection you’ll want to join in via your smartphone’s Wi-Fi. Once you get connected, you can launch the app and click on the device itself for instant livestream and watching your recorded videos.

The Transcend DrivePro Body 52 records great 1080p videos in 130-degree angle, and that’s where it really shines. That’s where it really should be, and we’re very pleased with the results we’ve gathered through the course of our usage.

Transcend is also offering a docking station if you have multiple DrivePro Body cameras with you, making it a whole lot easier for you to sync up to 6 cameras in just one go. You’ll have to download the DrivePro Toolbox for it to work, though. But you can download it for free through Transcend’s website.

Conclusion

As Transcend would put it, the DrivePro Body 52 is a Frontline Guardian, and it does justice to that name through its great video camera that can record in Full HD clarity, and in its flexibility through its modular camera. Furthermore, its rugged and durable exterior makes it even more of a superior offering that you can bring anywhere with you, as long as a camera is permitted. Surveillance is essential for one’s security, and Transcend’s DrivePro Body 52 can deliver.
