Will the i3-3240 3.40 GHz bottleneck the GTX 1050ti? And how should I upgrade my old PC?

  • My PC is pretty outdated already. Current specs are:

    CPU: i3-3240 3.40 Ghz
    MOBO: Intel® Desktop Board DH61WW (Socket:1155; Dual DDR3 1066/1333/1600 O.C.)
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce 210
    RAM: 2GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
HDD: 465GB Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device (SATA)
PSU: Generic (No idea what brand it is but it's been with me for the last 5 years at least)
CASE: Unknown "Tecware" Case (Circular power button)
    MONITOR: Acer X193HQ (1366x768@60Hz)

I plan to upgrade this PC to play AAA titles so I was thinking if I could replace the GPU with a 1050ti (Either Inno3D, Palit, or Zotac) then upgrade the ram to a single channel DDR3 8 GB 1600 MHz (Gskill RipjawsX) then buy a real PSU and a new case (because the USB ports don't work sometimes and are wobbly). I plan to just upgrade the GPU, RAM, PSU and the CASE. I may also get a new 1080p monitor. Anyway, I need help from y'all since I'm pretty much a newbie.
  • I would update the ram first definitely, 2gb is simply not enough. A 1050ti won't be bottlenecked by an i3 in most games. I would get a decent psu before the video card.

Your i3 is not much slower than a new i3 6100 so that's okay. Processor advancements have waned over recent years
  • May kunting bottleneck po. Pero playable naman po.
