144Hz monitor capped at 72fps on dota 2

  • may mali sir e, kasi sa system ko na mas mahina dyan sa gamit mo which is an i7 4th gen plus and a r9 280x na 3-4times faster gpu mo and mas mabilis din sa cpu ko e kaya ko maka attain ng 143 fps sa dota 2 without screen tearing with 1080p 24inches monitor, what im saying is hindi mo tlga maaattain ung 143 fps with vsync on given na yan.

kasi sa totoo lang dapat kaya ng pc mo na walang screen tearing kahit vsync off tlga. example ko pc ng kapatid ko Isipin mo sa kapatid ko ang gamit nya ay lumang monitor na 60hz lang and ung cpu and gpu nya ay ryzen 1600 at gtx 1050ti pero alam mo sir nsa 115 nakaset fps nya with vsync off and wala tlgang tearing. palagay ko may problem lang sa setting yan kasi hindi naman masyadong cpu and gpu intensive ang dota 2. kaya nga mag low-medium setting via igpu e. Ang alam ko ang vsync on e mas applicable siya sa mas mahihinang gpu na hirap sa laro para stable ang fps, need nila ng vsync on pero pag ung card mo naman is way too high sa requirement ng game dapat with vsync off e kayang kaya pa din yan.

  • @glendbest.. sir correct me if im wrong pero mas possible po ang screen tearing specially sa mga high-end gpu dahil sobra-sobra ang fps na ibinabato ng gpu sa monitor, sa case ko kc meron talaga kong screan tearing pag naka vsync off ako PERO tulad ng nasabi ko narin sa previous reply ko na kapag ni-lock ko ang dota 2 fps_max sa 144 with vsync off nawawala ang screan tearing at naa-achieve ko ang 144fps pero stuttering naman ang problem ko nun dahil narin siguro freesync ang monitor at nvidia ang gpu ko. naniniwala ko sa sinabi mong kaya ng cpu specs mo ang 143fps using 24inch monitor, cguro mas nagpabigat sakin ay dahil 27inch ang gamit ko and 144Hz really quite a big burden to the gpu. Tulad narin ng pinayo ng mga ilang master natin dito eh ginawa ko na lahat at lahat ng settings na pwede kong baguhin but still walang nagbago. The best way to fix this is to try some other higher procie para malaman ko kung yung procie ko ang bottle neck, im using 7700 and its locked to 3.6Ghz.

Ang Vertical Sync = Fast (or Nvidia Fast Sync) is still a form of vsync, at hindi siya same as "vsync off". Magkaiba ang setting nila sir, dahil ang vsync off is hindi nakikisabay ang GPU sa refresh rate ng monitor. Ang fast sync nakikisabay parin ang GPU kaya no tearing :-)

Kapag vsync-off ang GPU bato lang ng bato ng frames sa monitor at ang monitor bahala na mag display ng frames on its own pace. Whether partial frame lang kaya ipakita ng monitor or mag drop siya ng frames dahil lagpas na sa 144 fps, walang pakialam ang GPU at monitor sa isa't isa.

For me ang vsync-on is the worst setting you can use, and parang nagiging useless narin siya sa PC gaming in my opinion. Useful nalang ang vsync-on kung fixed ang framerate like movies and videos OR kung gamit mo ang monitor in tandem with a console like PS4 or Xbox One. Ang console games are designed to work with TV's so yung game engine nila tries to keep a fixed framerate as much as possible.

Ang vsync-on adds lots of input lag so magiging sluggish ang mouse and keyboard inputs mo sa DOTA2 or CS:GO. What's worse is kapag hindi kaya ng PC mo i-maintain ang steady 144 fps para mag sync sa 144Hz refresh rate ng monitor... automatic drop kaagad ang framerate mo to 72 fps. Kung hindi parin kaya ang steady 72 fps, another automatic drop ulit yan to 36 fps and so on....

Kung talagang gusto mo ng no tearing, at since walang G-Sync yung monitor mo... Fast Sync is the best option I can recommend for you. Try mo lang sir halos lahat ng Nvidia users yan din ang gamit as an alternative to G-Sync :-)

take note: sa dota 2 lang po nangyayari pero pag sa CS:GO i can go 144fps.

It means may maling setting sa DOTA2. Either capped ang framerate or nakaset sa game na 72Hz yung monitor mo or maybe something to do with windowed mode. To be sure try running a demanding benchmark tulad ng Unigine Superposition and see kung locked parin ang framerate to 72 fps. Kung ang framerate goes above 72 fps then yung issue nasa DOTA2. Try reinstalling the game or review mo yung settings niya one at a time to check.

  • @sleepygeepy.. sir thank you sa pagreply sa thread ko and for trying to solve my issue, but again tulad ng nasabi ko ulit nagawa ko narin po lahat ng option sa nvidia control panel pati po yung fast ay sinubukan ko na po with vsync off at stuttering po ang nagyayari sakin, tama naman po yung sinabi mo regarding vsync on pero in my case thats the very best na pwede kong gamitin to have a smooth gameplay. Regarding dota 2 settings i alrteady tried re-settings all options, nacheck ko narin lahat ng kelangan baguhin base sa payo ng mga ilang master natin dito at pati sa mga nabasa ko sa internet but still no luck.

What's worse is kapag hindi kaya ng PC mo i-maintain ang steady 144 fps para mag sync sa 144Hz refresh rate ng monitor... automatic drop kaagad ang framerate mo to 72 fps. Kung hindi parin kaya ang steady 72 fps, another automatic drop ulit yan to 36 fps and so on....

yan rin ang naging conclusion ko kaya palagay ko nag drop sa 72 ang fps ko, siguro ang procie ko ang may problem.
  • @yagami111803

Actually what I meant to say sa post ko is yung DOTA2 settings mo ang may problem not your processor :-)
  • @yagami111803

BTW, hindi naman ako nakikipag-argue hehe... I just want you to keep an open mind sir and look at all options. Baka kasi bumili ka kaagad ng new processor and new motherboard only to discover na locked parin at 72 fps sa DOTA2. Sayang din yung nagastos mo sir diba? :-)

Kaya ko nasabi sir na yung DOTA2 settings ang may problem... kasi with Core i7-7700 and GTX 1070, yung average FPS mo sa DOTA2 should already be at above 100 fps. Meron cases na mag drop yan to below 60 fps in very heavy clashes pero most likely split-second lang yun while playing. To give you an idea, yung Core i7-7700K (non-overclocked) easily reaches 164 fps average on 1080p ultra settings. Yung performance ng PC mo should be within the same ballpark at around 120 - 130 fps with GTX 1070. Yung dips to 88 fps and 43 fps I would assume caused na by some CPU bottleneck or issue na with the DOTA2 game engine.

Pero if you really feel na processor ang may problema, try checking CPU temps baka kasi kulang sa cooling at nag throttle ang CPU. Another thing to check is yung memory mo if it is running at DDR4-2133 speeds or if single stick lang gamit mo. Yung memory can also limit CPU performance sa games especially with very fast CPU's like Core i7-7700.

Pero to be honest sir, hindi dapat siya mag-lock to 72 fps. Usually malikot ang framerate at naglalaro yan between 80 fps - 100+ fps while playing DOTA2.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I think baka ito yung nag cause ng issue... may reports na yung Windows 10 Game Bar or Game DVR mode nag limit ng fps. Make sure to disable both in Windows 10 and check kung mag increase ang fps mo sa DOTA2.

  • @sleepygeepy.. thanks bro sa pagreply! about my procie hindi ako sure kung K series ito kasi ang nakalagay lang sakin is i7-7700 only. regarding my temps ang gamit kong procie cooler ay cooler master HYPER 212 LED only, i know hindi sya ganun kagandang cooler pero malamig ang room temp ko dahil naka AC naman ako tuwing maglalaro and most of the time tuwing gabi ako naglalaro dahil may trabaho ako sa umaga. Sa RAM naman im using HYPER X 8GB only single stick. Windows game bar already disabled. Well if you insist na baka sa settings ng dota 2 ko ang problem at hindi sa hardware ng cpu ko, susubukan ko nalang i-delete ang game at refresh install from the start wala naman mawawala kung susubukan baka sakali nga umayos. Update kita if my nagbago. thanks!
  • @yagami111803

Ok naman sir ang Core i7-7700 plus Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler that's a good combo. Hindi naman siguro temps ang problem. Makikita mo naman kung palagi nasa 4.0GHz ang apat na cores niya while gaming, which means gumagana ang Turbo boost ng processor and hindi nag throttle.

Verify mo sir na disabled itong game settings sa Windows 10 just to be sure na walang effect ang Windows 10 game settings:

    - Game Bar = off
    - Game DVR = off
    - TruePlay = off

Yes, try mo narin mag clean uninstall ng DOTA2 and re-install it from scratch. Baka kasi may old settings or old patches na nag-a-affect ng game. Also good idea din to update to the latest Nvidia GPU drivers (WHQL) and uninstall mo yung previous driver para clean din ang installation.

Last resort na siguro yung pag-upgrade and replace ng CPU kasi magastos yun hehe :-)
  • @sleepygeepy..

Verify mo sir na disabled itong game settings sa Windows 10 just to be sure na walang effect ang Windows 10 game settings:

    - Game Bar = off (verified off)
    - Game DVR = off (verified off)
    - TruePlay = off (its off already when i go there)
    re-installed nvida driver (clean install)

another thing is i disable xbox monitoring on my registry (some one say it might help to improve my gameplay)
ngayon download ko na ulit yung dota 2 and i will post an update kung naayos yung problem.
  • Hi Guys ok po ba ryzen 5 3600 + gigabyte rx 570 + 16gb v.corsair sa 144hz 1080p monitor? balak ko kasi bilhin ang Asus VG278QR 27" 165Hz Gaming Monitor. usually dota2 and csgo lng me. makukuha papalo ba yun monitor na yan 144hz sa specs ko
