Cignal, Meralco subsidiary launch new broadband service
ABS-CBN News
Nov 17 2020 02:18 PM
MANILA - Cignal TV and Radius Telecoms, a subsidiary of Manila Electric Company, announced on Tuesday that they are forming a new pay TV and home internet service called RED Broadband.
Radius Telecoms is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Meralco, which is part of Manny Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp.
Cignal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MediaQuest Holdings under the PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund, which is also part of the Pangilinan conglomerate.
Radius and Cignal said RED Broadband is offering to consumers unlimited fiber internet and pay TV starting at P1299 per month.
The new service competes directly with Sky which also provides pay TV and home broadband services.
Earlier this month, Pangilinan said he had dropped his unsolicited bid to acquire Sky amid worries that antitrust regulators may review the deal.

Will they resurrect the now-defunct Red Mobile?

I believe red mobile was a smart subsidiary while red fiber is under meralco so magkaiba. Red mobile was also telco, red fiber will be similar to sky which is internet and tv.

^They would sell bundled cable and broadband service, unsure if coax since PLDT has Fibr Plus with Cignal via fiber lines. If they can only sell a satellite-based internet that would definitely sell

Since Pldt offer Cignal, add on sa fiber plans nila...
Naisip nila na mas maganda introduce a new company that offers broadband and TV HD channels that can compete SKY with the same flatform... karamihan kasi Sky are using old coax.... limited pa din ang fiber...

Good alternative. Wala kasi silbi sa akin yung free landline. Mas maapreciate ko yung free cable tv with my fiber internet.

Nope, they have their own infrastructure. They don't rely on PLDT

pldt backbone nyan. radius telco is under meralco, and meralco is under mvp company, kaya nga brand name nyan is RED, same ng RED mobile before, hawak ng smart, lol

Anung kulay ng cable nila? Dito sa Antipolo near Ynares, may nagkabit 2 years ago, Green (I assume PT&T kasi yun yung logo sa van nila). 2 months ago naman, Blue. Walang logo yung van, Wala pang mga napbox.

A question about Radius' SME fiber network.
Where does it connect with PLDT's network in terms of within the Philippines and international under water cable?
I am thinking of terminating my Globe fiber because its so unreliably slow at 10Mbps

as far as submarine/international cabling, it's a duopoly between pldt and globe. converge bitfrost cable is targetted on 2024.

For the sub sea cable they order the gateway link thru IPC (MPV Group). It was located at RCBC. Meron din via Globe Data center which is in Makati din.
PLDT and Radius inter connectivity is used as last mile connection only. for example. If PLDT has no network/infra in a certain area, and radius already had one. PLDT will tap radius to provide the last mile connectivity and vice versa.
In terms of routing. they are not relying on PLDT. So kung may routing issue si PLDT, not affected si radius. https://bgp.he.net/AS55821#_peers.
In terms of physical infra in Luzon. They have own infra and shared infra with Meralco. But they are expanding their data centers outside Meralco. They don't rely with PLDT for their connectivity of their data centers. They have own Fiber cables and sometimes they also use Meralco Fiber.
All info above are during my days with them. Maybe they had new projects or agreement with other telco.

anyone knows kung may sarili silang NAP boxes or gagamitin PLDT NAPs? May flyers na sa condo namin for Red Fiber but we only have 4 NAP boxes (pldt / globe /sky /converge) per floor.

May sarili sila NAP box.
