Any recommendation for a DUAL WAN Router

I'm thinking if ano pinakarecommended nyong modem ung tipong may fallback/backup na line.

    Planning sa ganitong setup:
    1. Fiber Line ung main
    2. 5G CPE modem ung secondary

So pag nag LOS ung Fiber, I'm assuming ung secondary magsusupply.

Possible ba? If yes, pashare naman ng experience nyo or better if may marerecommend kayo na modem.

Currently, eyeing ako sa ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000.
  • check this kung pwede sayo

    TPLink ER605 V2
  • parang maganda yan. tama ba? possible dyan more than 2 source since pwedeng change sa config WAN/LAN?

    1. Fiber
    2. 5G CPE

  • Thanks. Hassle kasi pag nag pula ung modem. Pag wala kasi net walang view or even upload sa cloud.

  • multiwan router from tplink should be good enough as long as your serving less than 500mbit connection for loadbalancing or 1gbit for failover.

if your planning with loadbalancing or routing policy based usage. mas maganda mag invest ka na ng mini pc with 2 or more network ports and use pfsense.

  • hmmm... not sure how to check un pero ang ikakabit ko lang is converge 1500 na 100-200mbps and suncomm 02 5G CPE.

    Not sure kung ok lang.

    WAN1 - Converge
    WAN2 - Suncomm 02

I agree and would strongly recommend the ER605 for your use case. I actually have that particular setup. Plan 1500 w/ converge + SmartBro. I also havea PLDT 2500 + Converge 1500 in another location. Both load-balanced / auto-failover.

Now if you want to do anything heavy like IPS/IDS, Policy Based routing, or any serious traffic shaping, and multi-user VPN, I would also agree with the pfSense suggestion. That's what I use now for my primary setup.

triple WAN load balancing + failover (Converge 3500/PLDT 2700/SmartBro Prepaid), PBR, IDS/IPS via Suricata, pfBlockerNG for filtering, and Tailscale for VPN (but currently disabled, since I work from home nowadays).

  • if your planning with ER series omada routers I recommend doing a research about it specially with failover.

last time na hinawakan ko yan there's a major bug on failover setup which hindi sya automatic bumabalik sa primary connection unless you power cycle the CPE unit ng primary WAN mo. So when you finally got one on your hands simulate a LOS by just unplugging the fiber cable and wait for it to failover to your backup, pag nag failover na balik mo yung fiber cable and see if it can gracefully go back to primary connection.
  • @polka and @vanguard

Thanks.

Sundot sundot.

  • UPDATE: Nainstall ko na sya. Mukhang working naman after mafix ung converge line ko at nawala ung RED LOS. Matic nagswitch sa main. For the meantime, test ko na lang sya kung magstick sa ganun behavior. i.e. pag down ang converge si SUNCOMM02 ung mag supply.
  • sir may step by step guide sila pano ito gawin?

Currently kasi may PLDT Fiber 1299 plan ako, then meron din ako Huawei 5G CPE Modem as backup, with unlidata (mas mababa ping dito talaga)..

I think they are using this kind of WiFi https://1wan.co/

once you do that you will see the real CONS ng tplink multwan router. dahil hindi sya bumabalik sa main wan connection once the connection is restored. the band-aid fix that tplink propse is enable loadbalancing which actually fix the problem, but this cause another issue which greatly degraded the wan performance, from easy 1gbit connection to and from the internet to slow 100-300mbit connection.

Ang problem it keeps using ung suncomm02 kahit literal na may signal ung converge.

  • ^ afaik, tplink constantly pings each of your WAN's gateway IP address to check internet connection, if it receives 10 RTO if im not mistaken, itll assume meron internet outage on that specific WAN.

and fyi, ISP like PLDT, Globe and Converge sometimes randomly block your constant ICMP request on their respective gateways, once that is blocked, since yan lang talaga yung source of checking ni tplink kung meron internet o wala. a blocked ICMP traffic sa gateway nila means no internet connection even though in reality meron naman internet.

as for how to fix it.... i dont know. I cant even remember a way to change it.
  • Ano kaya magandang gawin sa ganitong setup. Ung saksakan kasi ng converge and modem nasa 1st floor.

    1st floor
    Converge Modem

    2nd floor
    TPLink ER605 V2
    Main - Converge
    Fallback - SUNCOMM 02
Router connected to LAN magdistribute ng WIFI connection - dito nakaconnect lahat including IP cameras.

    1. Mesh - kaso another two items: 1 router and 1 addon
    2. Repeater - worried ako baka may loss ng speed.

Baka may suggestion kayo na better. Thanks.

  • @expert_gamer [TS]

Master hows the TP-Link ER605 doing? Wala ka na bang bugs na naencounter or present pa rin sya despite the recent firmware updates? I have a PLDT and Converge line, and ito sana yung plano kong setup >>

Itapon yung ISP provided Modem/Router/ONT >> use GPON SFP stick (DFP-34X-2C2) on each >> Media Converter Gigabit Ethernet >> TP-Link ER605 >> Wireless AP (still searching which one is best).

Ayun naloko internet.

  • Anong worst bug naexperience mo?

  • @expert_gamer [TS]

Thanks sa update Master. Un pala downside ni TP-Link ER605. Kelangan pala manual setup lagi tuwing magbrown-out. Cge I'll explore na lang yung PFSense build baka sakali reliable yung fail-over / balanced mode / traffice shaping nya.
  • hello po, kaya din po ba ni TP-Link ER605 na combined yung speed of 2 ISP? currently using yung ax router ni asus, meron siya load balancing and failover feature, pero waiting pa ako maayos yung PLDT para ma test ko talaga
