Tipidpc Folding bike users (TFB)

  • Hi guys,

    need help,

    - Namamahalan na ako sa gas and since malapit lang ang workplace ko sa bahay. Iniisip ko bumili ng folding bike home to office. (From Taguig Proper going to McKinley Hill) Approx 5Km.

    - I'm 5'7 and around 200lbs(ata)
    - need a folding bike that's light weight and can be fitted to a carryon bag para maipasok sa loob ng office.
    - Hopefully you can give me some shops near Taguig Area
    - Budget wise not exceeding 40k (or less than 30k need ko pa kasi pa-approve sa commander wifezilla ^_^ )

Looking forward for your advice mga sir.

  • Any brompton-clone or Sugimura would have a very small footprint when folded.
  • @Jaydee21

You might want to check out the 3SIXTY Brompton clone at LitePro Cyclery. Price is Php 29,800

Also check out the Nyfti Raio v2.0 from Nyfti Bicycles. Very compact when folded and costs Php 25K. Also has the benefit of being Pinoy designed / Pinoy made and has a passionate user base / user following :-)

  • Nyfti Raio 2.0 unfolded (matte black edition)

Budget wise not exceeding 40k (or less than 30k need ko pa kasi pa-approve sa commander wifezilla ^_^ )

The trick is you need to buy her one too to get approval :-)

  • Crius velocity or fnhon monsoon?
  • @sleepygeepy

ahahahaha! commander wifezilla is not into biking. She knows how to gain speed but doesn't know how to break.. so medyo nakakatakot.

Thanks for the info regarding 3sixty. will try to dropby or contact them first. may kalayuan din sila from where i am from. am leaning to 3sixty for now. Will also check the Nyfti. Will also check some pros and cons with folding and bike parts.

Sana di mahirap ito sa mga paahon. (From C5 going up to McKinley Hill ).

    Salamat ng marami.

Alam ko ang 3Sixty available na sa ibang reputable bike shops like Glorious Rides or Tryon so check lang their FB pages kung available.

Yung Nyfti is slightly bigger dahil 20-inches yung wheelset but yung maganda sa kaniya is the long wheelbase. So mas stable ang ride quality and hindi twitchy ang feel which is good for coasting downhill, biking at fast speeds, or climbing up a steep slope at turtle pace. Also yung 20-inch wheelsize allows for wider tires so mas comfortable ang ride. Disadvantage lang is the bike is slightly bulkier when folded and slightly heavier if you need to carry it up a flight of stairs.

Regarding folding bike parts... the less esoteric the parts being used, the better. But medyo common na ang folding bikes sa atin so parts are readily available compared to before. Between the 3Sixty and Nyfti Raio, parts availability look better on the latter.

Regarding the bike route... alam ko mataas ang slope ng from C5 to Mckinley Hill if you are mentioning the section with restaurants and semi-residential area / Korean school (?). Yung 3Sixty only has 3 speeds so I'm guessing mahirap i-ahon yun unless powerful rider ka. My suggestion is kung super taas ang slope, be practical and just walk your bike and preserve your energy. Anyway you want to avoid working up a heavy sweat + elevated heart rate especially if you will be working in an AC environment afterwards.
  • @sleepyygeepy

    hindi ba 20" ang 3Sixty?

Regarding C5 to McKinley Hill you are correct mataas ang paahon dun and siguro nga lakarin ko na lang yung paahon.

I checked yung Nyfti kaso ni measure ko mukhang malaki sya. Am not sure if same din kung sakaling 20" din si 3Sixty kapag folded.

    Thanks!
  • @Jaydee21

Ang 3Sixty is using a 16-inch diameter wheelset, which is fine really and you end up with a more compact fold. However take note na mas konti ang choices mo in terms of wheel upgrades or tire upgrades kasi medyo uncommon ang 16-inch wheelsize.

Kung hindi ka naman mahilig mag upgrade then sticking to the stock wheels and tires is fine. Pero once you buy the bike, I recommend getting a couple of spare inner tubes kasi not all bike shops have inner tubes for 16-inch wheels. Hassle din yung ma-flat ka while biking and you have run out of spare inner tubes hehe.

    - 8 speed gearing versus 3 speed gearing
    - Regular mountain bike shifter and derailleur versus Sturmey Archer shifter
    - Disc brakes versus caliper brakes
    - 20-inch wheels versus 16-inch wheels
    - 12.7 kgs versus 12.6 kgs so not a big difference in weight

Kung mahilig ka mag customize and upgrade ng bike, then I think better platform ang Nyfti Raio. Pwede mo din i-upgrade and customize ang 3Sixty but baka mas mahirap maghanap ng parts and possibly mas mahal (kasi you may resort to original Brompton parts and accessories).

Yung hindi ko lang gusto sa Nyfti is hindi siya well distributed and you can only buy it from Nyfti bicycles. So kung may issue sa frame or folding mechanism you have to bring the bike to Nyfti mismo.

Sa opinion ko lang, if you will do bi-modal commuting like... bike to bus stop / MRT station... then ride bus / MRT... then get off and bike the last few kilometers to office... mas ok ang 3Sixty. Pero if you are planning to bike straight from home to office with no commuting stops in between... mas ok ang Nyfti Raio.
  • @sleepyygeepy

Thank you so much for the tip. Now on my list are this two:

    1. Nyfti
    2. Dahon Mariner D7/D8.
  • Doppelganger.
  • Any feedback on Totem brand? I just bought a Totem shulz20 folding bike on impulse and I'm disappointed on how difficult it is to find info regarding it, even a manual. Bike noob pa naman ako lol.
  • Paano convert disk brakes ang Doppleganger?
  • hello sirs, baka po may ma-suggest kayo. looking for a foldable bike na worth 4-6k lang. thank you
  • dolphin 2.0 mga around 7k yata..
  • thanks sir fargin!
  • Hello Sir @Jaydee21!

Been a Nyfti owner here since 2015 (early customers). What bike did you get na?
  • Hi @hack_finn

Project was disallowed by the misschieftain(wife). Lilipat na kasi ako ng work from Taguig to Mckinley Hill, naging Taguig to Alabang na po ako.
  • good day po sa lahat, ask ko lang po if pwede i upgrade si trinx ds2007 into disc break, if pwede ano po mga need palitan? salamat po.
  • ok po ba yung Crius at Fnhon na brand?

Madami kang papalitan, it maybe not worth it since siguradong mapapamahal ka lang. Kasama na dyan yung wheel hub both front and rear, yung fork kelangan ng mounting, at yung frame sa rear also needs a mounting bracket. Hindi ko lang alam kung may nabibili dyan na mounting bracket, or kelangan mo magpa-custom made ng bracket at welding sa frame at fork.

    Crius at Fnhon na brand

Both are reputable brands. Go for fnhon if you want more quality frame.
Tried backreading and yung recommendations before ay puro dolphin 2.0. Not sure if may mas okay na ngayon.

Wala pa naman specific goals since first time ko bibili ng bike. Most likely ride during weekends lang pang exercise.

Officially a member of this thread now. Any tips mga sir? First time to own a bike, puro hiram lang ako dati.
