AMD Radeon RX 580 Graphics Card

  • @rob1989

I think may mali lang sa configuration kaya nakaka-encounter ka ng microstutter with RX 580 and the Samsung monitor. Before giving up and selling your monitor and videocard, suggestion ko try to find out what's wrong with your setup muna.

Ano pala yung Samsung monitor na gamit mo sir, is it the Samsung LS24F350FHEXXP? Take note na very narrow ang FreeSync range niya (48Hz - 72Hz) and needs to use HDMI connection.

Para yung DOTA2 nasa FreeSync range palagi you need to make sure of the following:

    - Make sure the monitor is connected via HDMI. FreeSync will not work on the monitor if using DVI.
    - Set FreeSync mode in the OSD menu to "Ultimate Engine" to get the 48Hz - 72Hz FreeSync range.
    - In AMD Control Panel Display settings, make sure the monitor is detected as a FreeSync monitor and when you put your mouse over the setting, the message appears "Refresh rate reported by display: 48Hz to 72Hz"
    - In AMD Control Panel Global Settings, make sure to enable Framerate Target Control and set a framerate cap of 70 fps - 71 fps. This will make sure you will not exceed the FreeSync range of 72Hz and activate v-sync or whatever sync you are using.
    - In AMD Control Panel Global Settings, make sure Wait for Vertical Refresh is off. If you turn on v-sync it will cause a framerate drop if yung fps mo is not the same as the monitor refresh rate (72 Hz). Also to lessen input lag.

With the above settings dapat naka FreeSync palagi ang DOTA2 but yung framerate mo should not go above 70 fps max.

If you want a better setup for DOTA2, suggestion ko go with a 144Hz FreeSync monitor like Viewsonic XG2401 or Infini M7. Ang setup mo is more than capable of above 100 fps sa DOTA2 and yung Samsung monitor mo is limiting the extra framerate.
  • ^Thanks sleepygeepy kelangan ko ba dapat disable yung vsync in-game? pinaka smooth experience kasi pag naka on yung vsync in-game.
  • @rob1989

Disable mo sir yung vsync in-game and make sure unlimited ang framerate in-game kung may ganun setting sa DOTA2. Yung vsync kasi nakaka add ng input lag so baka may split-second delay yung reaction time ng mouse clicks / keyboard presses mo.

Kapag nakita mo yung fps mo nag drop below 48 fps then makikita mo na yung micro-stutter or tearing. Pero with Core i5 Kabylake and RX 580 tingin ko bihira mangyari yun even in heavy clashes.

    @rob1989
you need 144hz nabibitin rx580 mo. for radeon medyo hassle nga pati drivers nila. every game has its compatible driver version etc.
  • @ bernier

I am still waiting na masetup yung rig ko ngayon kasi kakaswtich ko lang to Ryzen para matest ko. I would say na mas mabilis ang GTX1060 sa RX580 with my old setup for most of the games pero hindi sila nagkakalayo.

    Setup:

    i5 3470 @ 3.2Ghz
    MSI H77MA-G43
    G. Skills Ripjaws X 2x4GB @ 1600Mhz
    Samsung Evo 240GB
    Western Digital Blue 1TB

    @rob1989

Galing ako ng GTX1060 then switch to RX580. I tried this setup pero hindi ako natuwa. Now, I am using adaptive sync and so far, I am satisfied.

    kumusta yung adrenalin ?
  • @firekeeper

so whats ur final setup now?? so far i followed sleepygeepys advise mukhang nagiging okay naman na. i will be keeping my samsung c24f390 and rx 580 combo nalang. simula nung ginamit ko yung FRTC ng AMD and set it to 71 naging smooth na gameplay ko thanks to sleepygeepy.. hndi ko kasi alam ang tamang pag timpla talaga ng freesync setting para gumana, pa iba-iba kasi yung advices sa ibat ibang forum sa advice lang ni sleepygeepy nagwork out yung expectation ko sa freesync..

    things i tried that didnt work out in dota 2;

    1. Freesync set to ultimate engine and vsync on (INPUT LAG)
    2. Freesync set to ultimate engine, vsync off and limit fps to 71 using the fps limiter on the in-game settings menu ( Micro Stutter)
    3. Freesync set to ultimate engine, vsync off, FPS Limiter not used (Screen Tearing)

    Fix
    1. Freesync set to ultimate engine, vsync off(in-game), Limit FPS to 71fps (freesync range is 48-72hz) using Global Settings in AMD Radeon Settings and Wait for vertical refresh set to always off (Global Settings)

having used gtx 1060 and rx 580, in gaming perspective which would you recommend? putting out into consideration the adaptive sync feature of a monitor

  • @rob1989

Glad to hear na medyo umokay na yung gameplay in DOTA2 with the RX 580 and Samsung C24F390 :-)

Kapag may extra budget na sir, consider upgrading your monitor to a 144Hz monitor. Malaki yung jump in smoothness ng on-screen motion and you will feel na super responsive yung mouse inputs / movement ng hero due to the reduced input lag. You might feel na parang may unfair advantage ka over opponents who might be playing on 60Hz screens and slow mice hehe...

I suggest you stick with the RX 580 for now, since kaya naman niya mag reach ng 100+ fps on DOTA2 depending on the settings. But once you upgrade to a 144Hz monitor and you experience playing at 100 fps with FreeSync, ang layo ng difference sir.
  • ^yes im eyeing the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411 144Hz di bale nang walang adaptive sync priority ko talaga high refresh rate..
  • @rob1989

Check mo din sir ang Viewsonic XG2401 and AOC G2460PF since same lang ang price nila with the BenQ Zowie XL2411. Both the Viewsonic and AOC have FreeSync so tear-free and micro-stutter free parin ang gameplay mo with the RX 580. Between the two mas maganda reviews ng Viewsonic when it comes to image quality.

Kung hindi mo gusto ang TN panel also check out MSI OPTIX G24C which is a 144Hz FreeSync monitor with curved VA panel. Or yung Infini M7 sold by one well known PC shop. BTW all of the monitors na binanggit ko cost the same (Php 15K).

  • ok po ba combo ng RX580 at LG 23MP68VQ?
    pros
    cons?
  • @bolly

Also ang RX 580 mas mataas ang PSU requirements compared to GTX 1060.
  • Also ang RX 580 mas mataas ang PSU requirements compared to GTX 1060.

    I'm currently using Core i7 7700 + ASUS Strix ROG RX 480 and it only draws 220 - 240 watts when running games at 2560 x 1080.

No that is incorrect and a poor assumption to make. Depende parin sa CPU and videocard used in the build.

Also hindi mo pwede expect na lahat ng gaming PC with one GPU ay gumagamit ng matinong 500W PSU. There are gaming PC build guides out there that recommend a Corsair VS450 PSU in the build.
  • dito na rin siguro ako magtatanong... my amd 7950 gave up on me last saturday... so need a card replacement for it... initial choice ko eh 14k+ na gtx 1060 6gb... pero walang stock... so assuming na available lang eh mga tig 17k+ na gtx 1060 6gb... may rx580 na 20k ang price di ba?... 1060 6gb ba or rx580 8gb ang mas maganda... will use on an old rig...

    i5 3450 proc.
    asus p8z77-m pro
    16gb ddr3 (8 x 2)
    lg 23mp68
Halos same performance naman 1060 at 580 e.
  • may ssd na ako hehehe... intel 120gb and yung bagong rma na sandisk 240gb ko... hirap kasi ng intel hd2500 lang gamit... kung saan medyo mura eh go...
  • ^

  • 'yun nga eh.. inquired sa isang shop... ang available lang nila is rx 580 of a certain brand for 26k...
  • got a powercolor red devil rx 580...
  • Saw this post on FB, posted last Feb 12... Softbox Solutions was selling 6 units of XFX RX 480 Black Edition for Php 16,300 each. Yung price is not that bad but sold out after a few minutes of posting.

  • @romulo

I'm really hoping na yung Nvidia Turing GPU will be the mining GPU to get para dun pumunta lahat ng attention ng mga GPU miners. Dapat si AMD should do the same and create a mining specific GPU din na mas maganda ang performance over a regular gaming GPU.
  • @romulo, @sleepygeepy

I think it was gone in 2 minutes. Nakita ko siya as soon as pagkapost.

Nasa Gilmore ako kahapon and there was one miner looking for Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 (6 pieces) - he was offering a downpayment and store declined him. First come first serve policy sila... Meron siguro ibang shops that accept this kaso sobrang naghihigpit na ngayon. Especially NVIDIA GPU's.

I doubt that will happen, also the increased mining hashrates should be significantly higher than gaming GPU to warrant reduced RMA coverage, and it should be cheap enough so that ROI is faster. If this can't be done, gaming GPU's will still be the preferred choice for miners, sadly.

That's good to hear, congrats!

Ok yan ah, at least medyo enforced sa store yung first come first served basis at sana may limit din of 1-2 GPU's per person. I'm sure si Nvidia may some sort of internal memo or communication with the local distros na i-prioritize ang gamers. Kasi sa totoo lang, kung yung PC shops are also selling gaming products tulad ng gaming mouse, keyboard, chairs, monitors etc mahihirapan sila ibenta yung other products kung wala din makabuo ng bagong gaming PC. Mas lugi sila in the long term kung sa miners lang napupunta ang mga videocards nila :-)

Regarding bulk buying... from what I heard yung mga bulk purchases nangyayari outside the shop at hindi pinapakita sa ibang customers. So may delivery arrangement and nakikipag meetup ang buyer and seller sa separate location. Kung malaki ang order, chances are yung videocards are grey market units at hindi na dumaan sa official distribution chain.

I doubt that will happen, also the increased mining hashrates should be significantly higher than gaming GPU to warrant reduced RMA coverage, and it should be cheap enough so that ROI is faster. If this can't be done, gaming GPU's will still be the preferred choice for miners, sadly.

I admit na very tricky yung situation and even if a dedicated mining GPU was created, you can say it is one less silicon chip allotted for a gaming GPU which still does not help supply. Unless fabs can increase production to support the demand for both mining and gaming GPU's both are competing for the same fab resources.

But I think it's still possible for Nvidia and AMD to create a mining specific GPU with much better hashrate-per-watt on certain crypto algorithms than a gaming GPU. It would be more of a compute centric chip that performs really well at solving crypto algorithms, possibly with the ability of the driver or the BIOS to be customized by the user. So the mining GPU can dynamically change performance characteristics to be able to mine more efficiently on a specific alt-coin.

In terms of cost, even if the mining GPU is more expensive than a gaming GPU... I think miners will still buy it if the hashrate-per-watt is significantly better. So for example if two specialized mining cards can perform the same as four GTX 1070's, smart miners will go for the mining cards even if they are more expensive than the GTX 1070's. The savings in power, cost of PSU, motherboard space, and riser card can offset the higher price of the mining GPU's. Not to mention if the mining card has the ability to change performance on the fly so it can mine better on Litecoin instead of Ethereum for example.

Well it's all a pipe dream really...

I'm actually wondering why Samsung, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and other mobile semi-conductor giants make their own crypto currency mining cards or appliances. Imagine if Qualcomm or Samsung made an accelerator card composed of multiple Snapdragon or Exynos SoC's dedicated for mining with incredible power efficiency. They could make a killing selling those devices :-)
