Unified Laptop/Notebook/Netbook Users Thread Part 2 (NO Trading Allowed)

  • Hi po at magandang araw,

I'm currently upgrading my 10 year old HP Laptop.

    Used mostly for :
    - Office use (MS Applications, Powerpoint Presentations, some video editing, photo editing)
Wala kasi ako PC dahil palagi ako on the go.
    - Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.
    - Video Conferencing
    - Light Gaming. Hanggang Dota 2 lang ako.

Budget is 50 to 60k.

    - PRICE : Php 49,990

  • Thank you Sir ccl2003. I never realized na hindi na pala reliable ang HP ngayon. Change is constant talaga.

I'll check out yung mga 15.6 inch laptops na suggestion mo, Sir. Thank you for the help.
  • Thank you Sir ccl2003. I never realized na hindi na pala reliable ang HP ngayon. Change is constant talaga.

    @RazorWolf

You're most welcome. In my own experience, medyo sablay na HP ngayon hindi gaya nung araw. For your budget madami naman options and you should also give importance to local after-sales support hindi mo kasi minsan masabi ano mangyayari sa unit kaya kung may two years local warranty mas maganda.
  • UPDATE :

    Lenovo Ideapad L340-15IRH 81LK003MPH |15.6-inch FHD | Intel Core i5-9300H | 8GB of RAM | 1TB | 4GB GTX 1650 | SRP: 47,495.00

-- edited by RazorWolf on Sep 11 2019, 10:57 PM
  • @RazorWolf

last time bawal daw Makita ang laptop nila, pay first before touch daw, bumili na lang ako sa s.v. mabait at explain to the max pa,

in your case parang pag ayaw mo bumili ng ssd at pakabit sa kanila nawala sila kickback sa iba ka na lang bumili,
  • @RazorWolf

Sabihin mo sa kanila pwede mo naman kase gamitin muna habang wala pang SSD and then just upgrade later on.

But still, hindi nila dapat pinipilit customers nila to upgrade kung hindi naman ganun ka critical, UNLESS meron talagang known problem yung laptop model nila na yun and SSD ang makaka solve. You have to clear that up with Lenovo.
  • @Razorwolf

Tanungin mo sarili mo if need mo ba ung faster boot time and other speed advantages ng SSD right now. If di naman important sa yo ung boot time and you can wait, antay ka na lang matapos ung 1 yr warranty and replace the SSD card by yourself. Madali lang naman magpalit ng SSD ngayon and just reinstall the OS in the new SSD.

    @ccl2003
Are you familiar with the life span of Asus laptop batteries? Such as its quality after 1 or 2 years of normal use (Office and browsing/streaming activities)...
  • @avid_007

My old Asus Core i3 laptop for 6 1/2 years started showing poor battery performance on its 3rd year only. I rarely used it on battery mode and used the charger as much as possible in order to extend the battery's lifespan. Replaced the battery exactly on 6th year and battery wear level was at 60%. What most people don't know is what actually shortens the battery's lifespan are the number of charge and discharge cycles plus heat. The more times you discharge it and charge it, the shorter its lifespan.

Based on my experience, any modern day laptop's battery should last at least 2 years before you are forced to replace it especially if you're the mobile type of laptop user. I don't care what other people say about running laptops on battery and not charging it until its absolutely necessary. If you can plug the laptop into an AC outlet just do it in order to extend the life of the battery. I have been asked by colleagues and friends to replace the batteries of their laptops after just a year of use because they always run their laptops on battery and they charge it only when the low battery warning kicks in.
  • Thank you Sir ccl2003, bought the "Lenovo Ideapad L340-15IRH 81LK003MPH |15.6-inch FHD | Intel Core i5-9300H | 8GB of RAM | 1TB | 4GB GTX 1650 | SRP: 47,495.00" you recommended kanina. Sa iba na ako bumili. Same price naman at may extra Lenovo Laptop Bag, 16 Gig USB drive, Wireless Lenovo Mouse at promo ng Lenovo Jacket. So far so good naman.

For sure mag upgrade ako pero not now.

  • @RazorWolf

    Fixed it sir...

Hindi na maganda quality ng Lenovo in my opinion average nalang, same as other laptops.
  • @RazorWolf

Install AIDA64 and check the panel manufacturer. Majority of laptops nowadays may backlight bleed talaga though minsan hindi sya gaano visible.

My Acer Swift 3 fortunately has a perfect panel which is an LG Philips panel.

TFT (thin-film-transistor) is a type of LCD display, and under TFT are specific implementations like IPS (in-plane switching) or TN (twisted nematic). So it is pointless to ask if the panel is TFT because it certainly is.
  • Post deleted #12251837
  • Ahhhh... ganun pala yun.

Thank you.

Full HD IPS panel, model number Innolux N156HCA-EAB (CMN15E7)

Nasagot na ni sleepygeepy yung question, pero easy way to distinguish IPS from TN is through viewing angles.
  • ^ I agree ang upside ng IPS talaga yun is viewing angles nya. My Acer Swift 3 for instance has an IPS panel too and kahit gumalaw ka side to side consistent pa din yun nakikita sa screen hindi gaya sa TN madali maging washed out ang nasa display lalo na sa sides.
  • Thank you Sir @sleepygeepy, Sir @Peorth and Sir @ccl2003.

Same budget po, 50k to 60k.

Eto po yung backlight bleed with 100% screen brightness :

  • Public service announcement :D

After 2 years and 3 months, eto nangyari sa Acer Aspire VX 15 ko:

When I opened the lid this morning to resume work, I heard cracking noises and then nagbagsakan na yung mga plastic from the right side kung nasaan yung hinge, bumukol tuloy yung bezel, buti na lang madali alisin yung bezel.

I called Acer pero sadly wala daw silang stock ng LCD back cover, mag order pa daw and hindi sigurado kung makakakuha pa since 2016 pa daw yung model.

I advise you to do these:

    Sa mga naka WARRANTY pa:
GO NOW to Acer Paco and have your hinges checked, kung ma-request nyo na palitan na nila as preventive measure, go. and AFTER mapalitan, I suggest you ask them to do the instructions below to AVOID this from happening again.

    Sa mga OUT OF WARRANTY:
I suggest you pop out your screen bezel and remove the hinge cover para ma-access nyo yung 2 hex nut sa hinge.

Eto yung vid on how to remove the bezel and hinge cover:

  • After 2 years and 3 months, eto nangyari sa Acer Aspire VX 15 ko

Seems like a design flaw. I've owned several laptops (including an Acer) and I've never encountered any hinge problems. Overall, I think hinge problems are fairly common among laptops because it's a stress riser (area where stress is concentrated), especially because of the repeat closing/opening. I think certain models are really prone to hinge problems simply because the hinge design is bad.
  • Good day mga Sir!

Mostly pang google sheets, word and excel lang and occassionally pang download ng m***es or if kakayanin yung pwedeng pang work at home.
Pwede na for basic ms office applications. Gamit nya rin daw for a bit of photo editing rin.
  • @ceejaytwo3
