  • China has deployed 8 surface-to-air missiles on a contested island in the South China Sea

  • ^ nananakot yung china. yung US naman, sigurado, manunukso or mang-aasar yan. mas lalo silang dadaan dyan. gera yan pag pinalipad ng china yung mga missiles na yan which is, i dont think na ganun sila ka-unresponsible.
  • Magisip kayo.
  • HI DjDom. Welcome to TPC.

Magaling ang US sa tactics. Huwag nating maliitin ang freedom of navigation nila.

naiinis ako at the same time kasi mga tao parang deadma lang, or baka hindi nila napansin kasi common dun yung naia eh so halos minuminuto may lumilipad na airplane.

  • LOOK: New PH fighter jets escort Aquino’s plane from US trip

After a decade, the Philippine Air Force is back to its role of escorting the president and other visiting heads of state while in the country’s airspace.

The Air Force resumed its role on Friday using the two newly acquired FA-50 fighter jets as it escorted President Benigno Aquino III’s plane from his official trip to the United States. The jets were flown by Air Defense Wing fighter pilots.

The last time the Air Force has played such role was in 2005, before the PAF F-5s were decommissioned.

The Philippine government acquired a squadron of FA-50 fighter jets from Korea Airspace Industries at P18.9 billion, the military’s biggest capability upgrade. The first two arrived in November while the rest are expected until 2016

Those billions of pesos are only enough for a symbolic minimal defence. Just enough to stop rogue military assets or "accidents" like the downing of a russian su-24 by turkey or more likely, just enough to make the enemy know that they can invade but its not going to be zero casualties for them.

To go on the offensive or put up a battle of britain type of total defence you dont need billions, you probably need trillions.
  • lots of avgas used. But let the air force do it. Its their first time since many years ago and its probably pnoy's last official visit to the usa.
  • side topic

China's millionaires, having looted their country, are anxious to get their money out of reach of the Politburo, to guard against confiscation should the political tides turn. Only one problem: the government will only let Chinese nationals move $50K/year out of the country.

The majority of China's new super-rich are prepped to leave the country, but getting their cash out is a serious problem. Much of the volatility in Bitcoin can be ascribed to Chinese elites using the cryptocurrency to smuggle cash out of the PRC. With the Chinese Yuan tanking, the race is on to convert Chinese wealth to other currencies and get out while the getting is good.

But there's a better way: for a small sum, you can just set up an offshore shell company, direct it to sue a Chinese company you own, throw the lawsuit, and then, oh well, I guess there's nothing for it but to send a bunch of cash to your shell company, exempted from export controls, in the form of court-ordered damages.

we could use the capital. Maybe the philipiines should try to muscle in on the action, if you know what I mean

  • FA-50PH pilots gaining proficiency: 2 more jets arriving before 2016 ends
    February 19, 2016 PNA

Pilot training for aircrews tasked to man the country’s brand-new FA-50PH “Fighting Eagle” light interim fighter aircraft has been going smoothly. This was stressed by Philippine Air Force (PAF) spokesperson Col. Enrico Canaya in an interview Wednesday.

“Our pilots [undergoing FA-50PH training] are now gaining proficiency [with the aircraft] as they are now regularly flying it,” he added.

Canaya expects the training phase to accelerate once two more FA-50PHs are delivered within the latter part of 2016. Remaining eight jets are scheduled to be delivered on staggered basis within eight months after delivery of third and fourth units.

“Once the additional aircraft arrives, we will train more pilots,” he added.

Prior the delivery of the first two FA-50PH jet aircraft last Nov. 28, four PAF fighter pilots, with high jet time, were sent to South Korea to undergo training in the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI)-made aircraft.

Two of these are test pilots while the other two operational or squadron pilots.

The PAF has a 12-plane FA-50PH order with KAI worth PHP18.9 billion. This is a full squadron by Philippine standards.

    pa-OT din.

.. nasa budget deficit na yung saudi last year. yan yung dahilan kaya yung ibang construction projects nila eh hininto. yung kita ng saudi eh majority galing sa petroleum products o oil exports, mababa yung presyo ng langis ngayon.

.. in 1980, nagka-utang-utang yung iraq dahil sa pagkaka-gera niya with iran. nun 1991, gulf war, nagka-utang din yung saudi kasi kailangan nyang magpatayo ng mga military establishment dahil naging threat si saddam ng iraq.

.. tapos ngayon, sasabak sila sa gera. tatagal kaya sila?
