SkyBroadband Upload Speed

  • Why does SkyBroadband has a low uploading speed?
Do they limit it intentionally? Can consumers tweak the QoS settings?

    Thanks,
  • ^ No that's normal for DOCSIS type of connection aka Cable connection. You would only get higher upload speed on different medium like Wireless broadband, Fiber, or VDSL/VDSL2. Don't worry DOCSIS 4.0 is in the horizon which can support symmetrical speeds.

That's why if you look at other countries with cable high speed internet they would get 600mbps down 80-100.mbps upload.
DOCSIS 3.X: upload is usually 15-20% of your download speed max.
Example: I would assume your broadband plan comes with 30mbps download so that would naturally mean your upload will be 6mbps.
    DOCSIS 4.0: symmetrical.

You'll just have to wait for Sky to upgrade their infrastructure as well as your modem to support DOCSIS 4.0. This will take time though since the technology is very recent. Like 2017 recent.

    EDIT:
Can consumers tweak the QoS settings?

No. You'll have to buy your own third party router (disable wifi of modem) and connect to it. You'll be able to tweak/configure your QoS this way.
